To My Blogging Friends

bobby-1.JPG

This to me, is the most important post I have ever written. I want to talk about a few things that have literally changed my outlook on blogging and my life.

The main thing in blogging that makes it so special are the people you meet along the way. You have friends in real life and then you have your blogging friends. Is there a difference to you? It’s much like real life in the blogosphere; you have your good friends and you have many acquaintances. I have made some blogging friends that I have true feelings for when it comes to friendship. These are the same feelings I have for people in my everyday life, for they are real people and many of us forget that. Many of us try so hard for big numbers and high hopes of making it big, but don’t let that corrupt your heart.

When you get to know someone while blogging, in some ways, you get to know them in a very intimate way. I have people in my real everyday life I’ve known for years that I don’t know as intimately as I would had I met them through blogging. I think it’s because of the general nature of writing. We write things that often, we may not tell our friends in everyday life. Blogging allows us to get to know someone in such detail, aside from what normal conversation entails.

I actually thought today, of quitting blogging altogether. Press a button and boom, your blog along with all the wonderful people gone in one second. I did not do that. That is a weak and selfish thing to do. My friends out in the blogosphere deserve much more than that.

Remember, these people out here are people. They have feelings and trust me, you can be hurt from these people just like in your everyday life.

Many of us turn to blogging because of loneliness, and I am no exception. If we all weren’t lonely in some way we probably wouldn’t be blogging. Some of us need blogging to fill in that void. If you are a shy person like me, then blogging is very healthy. Yes, I am very shy. Here in the blogosphere I may not seem shy, but that is part of the magic of blogging.

Addiction: Blogging is without a doubt very addictive, so much so it has effected my everyday life. Don’t forget about the people in your real life because of blogging. This is why I am writing this post.

This post is dedicated to the best friend I have here in the blogosphere, Mariuca. I have learned a lot about myself from her. She is a true friend and I mean that sincerely. She is as my new friend Mike said, “The nicest person on the internet.” I wish her the greatest that life has to offer.

I want to thank some friends here that mean a lot to me:

BrownBaron - A new friend! I think you also are one of the smartest bloggers I’ve seen yet.

Nihal - Another new friend I met through Marzie. You are a great guy with an impeccable blog, I am glad to be your friend!

Bobby, I’m so glad that you didn’t quit blogging. My breath caught when I read that part. Did you have a hard day? :(
You were the first to reach out to me when I joined MyBlogLog. I felt like a tiny dot in a huge mob there, and you gently took my hand and made me feel safe. Then you did it again at BlogCatalog (which I only joined because you lit the way for me).

Your blogs are places I feel safe and welcome, and that’s because of your caring… and your ceaseless support and encouragement.

    Thank you, Bobby.

  10. Revellian on July 5th, 2007 1:44 am

Adria: Yesterday was very hard for me and I really did almost quit. I did not and I am here stronger than ever before. What you have said is one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me - THANK YOU

  11. Adria on July 5th, 2007 2:00 am

Bobby, I’m glad that yesterday is behind you, and that you’re still here, still strong.

You had me worried… and that’s as it should be. That’s what friends do on the “hard” days.

    *hug*

  12. Revellian on July 5th, 2007 3:05 am

Adria: With friends like you it would be impossible to quit! Thank you for making me so special

  13. Polliwog on July 5th, 2007 3:28 am

What a beautiful tribute to your friends Bobby!

I was thinking along these lines today too, it was a sad day for me and good stuff kept coming at me all day … most from my new friends in the blog world. I feel very blessed right now. It sounds like you do too.
    :-)

  14. Revellian on July 5th, 2007 4:25 am

Polliwog: Thank you! I wasn’t done nor am I even close to all to be on this list. I added you because you have been a new great friend

  15. Brown Baron on July 5th, 2007 6:26 am

It’s actually breathtaking to think that we could find real friends through blogging without having to meet face to face.

    Bobby,
Next time you have a bad day, draw strength from knowing that we are your friends and that we will back you up whenever you need it.
It has been an honor and a privilege to call you friend. Good to see you’re sticking around.

… hey Bobby I am so genuinely genuinely happy to have met you and your blog… if i were to describe you like you have all of us I’d say

Booby: ” an endearing, compassionate and brave blogger who lays bare his soul with searing courage and love and acceptance… a true gem… that I’m proud to have met and befriended’

  22. Randy Maness on July 5th, 2007 3:11 pm

    Wow, Bobby.
I don’t even know what the blogging world would be like without Bobby. It would be a gray desolate place with blue meanies running about. I am grateful for your comment on me. Just know that I really look up to you. I hope that you have an excellent day! May good fortune and awesome wonders of the world come to you in unexpected ways. (I have ways wanted to sound like a prophet)

    Hi,

A quick hello to let you know that Fuelmyblog has had some surgery done and lots of changes have happened.
Your current voting widget is not valid, to fix this all you need to do is login to your account with Fuel and follow the link for widgets. All the widgets displayed on that page have the code matching your blog and are ready to copy and paste.

    Happy blogging!

  25. Revellian on July 5th, 2007 3:29 pm

Randy: I remember when I met you, we faved each other on technorati, reviewed eachothers blogs, joined eachothers communities on bloglog an blog catalogue - all at the same time without even talking about it!!! That was one cool-ass day I’ll never forget:)
Kevin: I have written at least 25 comments on other peoples posts telling them their widget was invalid! I thank you for telling me about mine:)

  26. HollyGL on July 5th, 2007 6:21 pm

Thanks so much, Bobby. The feeling is mutual! :)

    Hi Bobby,

You’ve been awarded the Thinking Blogger Award. Again [you have gotten it before, right?]. This time by me :-) Congrats!

And I suppose it’s synchronicity or something, because, well, thanks for the kind words and shout-out :-) always nice to know I’m making an impact on someone, especially a good impact, LoL! :-)
btw - whatever it is that had you contemplating deleting this blog, I hope you’ve resolved it! Of course, if you do decide to quit the blogosphere it would be a huge loss but it would be your decision to make, and yours alone. Glad you decided to stay!! :-)
    cheers,
    ~willow~

Bobby, your comment on my LJ made my day. :)
It’s heartwarming to see your friends rallying around you here. See how loved you are?

  30. Revellian on July 6th, 2007 3:28 am

Willow: Thank you, Another Thinking Blogger award? May I do that on my WGM blog? I havent received any awards on it yet. Thanks for being my friend
Paisley: I am? I never thought that before, maybe people see me much differently than I see myself. Politics? LOL! I am not very political. I do like speaking in front of large crowds though. I see myself doing something big, but not for myself, for the people. Thank you Paisley - there you go making me think and throwing me off guard again! You are too good at it
Adria: Three comments from you on one post! I am speechless. You have really helped me feel so much better  Thank you

  33. Wonder Woman on July 6th, 2007 7:25 am

Lunch today brought thoughts of friendships and the meaning of having true friends- and then I read this post. Someone I know believes that anyone met online is only an associate, while only those met in “real life” can be friends.
For me, a friend is not defined by those things. A true friend is one that supports you, and helps you, and is there for you- sometimes even silently in the background. There’s never doubt that a true friend cares. You actively show that you care. Thank you for being a wonderful and true friend.

  34. Revellian on July 6th, 2007 7:42 am

Wonder Woman: Exactly! If I call you a friend, then you really are a friend  Thanks for the kind words, I have been smiling all day because of you and all my friends! You are great

  35. joezul on July 6th, 2007 12:28 pm

    Bobby,

Today is the first day I’ve been online since a month ago. The first blog I came to is here, and reading the entry I almost choke at first.

I really miss a lot during my MIA. Sorry for being out of touch for so long.

“Without friends no one would choose to live, though he had all other goods. - Aristotle”

I really am proud to be your friend.

  36. Revellian on July 6th, 2007 1:44 pm

Joezul: WELCOME BACK! I remember when I first met you. You are the first friend I met through Marzie (that girl brings more people together than anyone on the entire internet). We went on that Alexa train ride together. Joe, sometimes we need time, we need a break from it all. I just had one of my worst weeks ever and I know you have had something not so good going on with you. I am your friend, and I’m not talking about just a blog friend, but a real friend. It is great to hear from you

  37. Beaman on July 7th, 2007 10:56 am

Thank you for the very kind mention! My British upper lip is quivering. I agree thoroughly with the sentiments in your post, very much so.

  38. Revellian on July 7th, 2007 11:37 am

A quivering upper lip? My Father told me when I was five that women love a quivering lip! I meant what I said. Thanks Beaman
