We have all heard about keywords. We have all heard about seo. So what about these seo keywords? Many bloggers may see this article and say, “Another article about keywords?”
Well for those bloggers I say, “Goodbye, I don’t want you here. Go follow the rest of the sheep. Just be careful what you step in at the back of the herd!”
The truth is, most bloggers don’t know anything about keywords, they’ve just heard about them! Today, we will learn a little about them by looking at how this post is written. The way I chose the seo keywords for this post was by using Google AdWords Keyword Tool.
This tool is for adwords but it is great for choosing keywords too! Keywords can be a single word or a phrase. I typed in the word “keyword” and found the phrase “seo keywords”. Check the advertiser competition for the phrase before you choose it! If the competition is too high, the word or phrase you choose will not benefit you. The phrase “seo keywords” was middle of the road for both competition and popularity, so it was a pretty good choice for this post.
I chose the phrase, seo keywords, and actually used it as the central motif from which to build this post! Look at the title of my post. It contains the keyword phrase, seo keywords! This is important to do. I could have named it something else and used the phrase, seo keywords, in my title tags. If you use blogger with an xml template (new blogger), you will simply need to make sure you title your post so it contains the keyword phrase.
Notice how many times I use the phrase, seo keywords, in this post! A lot huh? You want the chosen word or phrase in the title, and you want it mentioned in the post itself at least once! This is good seo practice. If you are a self-hosted wordpress blog, you have the wonderful plug in, The all-in-one SEO Pack to use. You can use it to tweak your title tags! In other words, your posts can have 2 titles! The post can have a different title tag than the name of the post itself.
For this post, I used the title tag:
Business Integrity | Blogging Ethics | seo keywords
Another powerful technique is to make sure any links to this post (from within this blog or external) use the anchor text, seo keywords. I recently wrote a post entitled “Optimizing Your Site By Decreasing It’s Size”. The keyword phrase for that post is: search engine optimization tips. The keyword phrase is the anchor text which is linked to that post! I linked to my own post using the keyword phrase! Click the link, look at the post and you’ll see all these concepts at work!
In the future, if I reference this post (the one you’re reading) I will use the anchor text “seo keywords”. It’s important to link to your own posts using carefully selected keywords if you are interested in building your site to grow!
WHY THIS POST IS VALUABLE: This post is for the rest of us. I have provided you with easy to understand information woven into the post itself. Most other posts like this are hard to understand and don’t explain things for normal bloggers like you and I. If I show you something, I explain it and show you how to use it. Let’s summarize:
- Select a keyword or keyword phrase with the adwords tool.
- Use the word or phrase in the post title or title tags.
- Use the word or phrase in the post text.
- Link to the post from other sites and your posts using the word or phrase.
If you have any questions just leave a comment! If you link to this post, USE THE ANCHOR TEXT: “seo keywords”! Tell them you got it from Revellian ![]()

Wow Bobby! Sounds so complicated!! I will have to read it over carefully tonight.
Just popping by to say hi.
Am I the first one to comment? Yiiippppeeee!
WaterLearner: It’s not that hard Karen! The hard part is choosing an effective keyword or keyword phrase. Once you get used to doing it, it is easy and will not affect your post’s integrity at all. It’s simply understanding that a keyword or keyword phrase needs to be in the title, the post, and linked to with the anchor text! I’ll help you whenever you’re ready
I consider myself as a beginner and as I was reading your post it came to my mind the training I had before regarding keywords. It says there, that your keywords should be very competitive for you to able to attract traffic as well as to rank in search engines. This post will help a lot new and beginners in this business. Great post indeed!
Autopartsgee: Thank you! Competitive is right! If we choose a word or phrase that has too much competition from higher ranked blogs it won’t help. I just learned about keywords 3 weeks ago and I get my information from 2 places. One of them is Jim Westergren. I consider him to be THE seo expert
Hi Bobby, wonderful! Thanks for bringing to light some of the things we tend to overlook in our posts. Must remember to do this from now on!
Mariuca: Thanks Marzie! Remember, try to carefully pick only one word or phrase for every post as it’s main one. Also remember that anchor text can hurt as well as help a site. If I link to your a post on your site using the anchor text
“my fav stuff” it would not be good. Anchor text must be in your title and in the post itself. Have a great day!
Ok, and it’s Have a great night over here!
Mariuca: Thanks Marzie! You are up late tonight. I remember back when it seemed like you were up all night every night! I think you might secretly be the Vampire Princess! Oh baby
I am going to read it thoroughly again. So these words do they have to be typed in labels?
Random Magus: No they do not. Actually labels have nothing to do with anything. They are for you. They do not work the same way that the categories do in a wordpress blog. I have long wondered why Google set up blogger the way they did.
Google set up blogger the way they did so they would have more control over the flow of money within the blogosphere.
It may seem silly to many people to apply these techniques to their blog. Google depends on non-money bloggers to not apply these techniques. That way they stay largely on the bottom. It’s incredibly complex but the more I learn about it, the more I believe Google is evil and my liking of them has changed to hatred. The single greatest thing that could help the blogosphere is for individuals to disrupt the balance of how it works faster than Google can add adjustments to it’s controlling algorithms.
I hope I haven’t confused you. The point is, non-money bloggers should use these techniques to help take the importance that money has in the control of the internet!
I love the way you explain things so simply…topics that were confusing to me before, make so much sense when you post on the subject. Thanks for the info Bobby
Eric “Speedcat Holly:Thank you! Your site has a sort of built in niche, golf. That is why you have a page rank! For me, it will be much more difficult to gain page rank because my competition happens to be the biggest of all, Pro Blogger. I sit patiently awaiting Google’s next page rank update as I know I will be ranked after that:) (I’d better be or someone will be getting a personal visit down at Google headquarters, ha ha ha)
Are you blogging for profit or pleasure? If for profit than SEO, Keywords, etc are probably important to you but they will never trump what Search Engines really want to rank first: Quality Trusted Content!
Once Search Engines discover the algorithm that separates Quality content from Poor Content without the use of back-links, keywords, and other SEO tricks that change with the prevailing winds, the digital landscape of the Internet will shrink as poor content web-sites and blogs fall into the eternal black hole.
Debbie Dolphin:What do you define as poor content? I will tell you this. Quality content is not important to Google and never will be. Quality content means absolutely nothing if that quality content does not have a ton of links connected to it. You can have the best content on Earth and with no links it will never be read.
The only thing any of the search engines are interested in is MONEY. That will never change. The only changes I see coming in an algorithm is going to punish all blogs that do not have most of their links connecting to blogs that make a lot of money. The idea that Google or any search engine will base anything on quality content is a noble fantasy that I wish would come true. Google doesn’t care about anything but money, that’s just the way it is!

BTW: I blog to help people and if I make any money, I will use it to help people
Bobby, the best of writing a post for me is giving the title. I enjoy doing it & I learned from you today that the title but also correspond to the match word in the post you say?
Janice Ng
Janice: Use the Google adwords tool to find a key phrase that can be incorporated in the title of your next post. I will help you do this. When you write your next post, you should have a rough idea of the posts content. Then you can set about finding the right key phrase. Let me know, and I will check your choices out to make sure you pick an effective phrase!
Your comments are Fuel for thought, Bob! There appears to be so much SEO advice and misinformation in the blogosphere right now that it is difficult to discern SEO tricks from SEO tactics!
Debbie Dolphin: My main goal in blogging is to help people like you who have wonderful blogs with great and unique content. Look at my blogroll. You will find very few A-list money bloggers (you will find none). I know exactly what you mean as far as the information out there. It’s confusing and usually written for experts.
BTW, you have some wonderful pictures and descriptions on your blog! Great job! I am adding you to my blogroll
Bobby!!
I read once just now. Could not understand this keyword thing. Went to make myself a cup of coffee. Drank the coffee and read again. Still don’t understand!
What’s going to happen to the key words?
By the way, I really do not understand the SEO thing.
Dumb right?
WaterLearner: I think you are looking for something to understand that isn’t there. There is not much to “understand”.
Knowing how you think (based on my experience reading your posts and having conversations with you) you may be using too much intelligence in understanding keywords!
I think I need to write another post which will provide a better model for you and many others
Hey Bobby …
Forgot to tell you. You have been tagged! Check it out!
http://waterlearner.blogspot.com/2007/09/5-things-you-dont-know-about.html
WaterLearner: Ah yes! I know this already
Thanks Karen!!!!!
Great tips Bobby! I’ve downloaded the SEO pack before any never use it for my posts except for the main page. I did manage to put up keywords for few posts but sometimes I just forgot to put them at all. I think I need to put the keywords in all my posts.
Emila: The most important place for the keyword or keyword phrase to be (one main one per post) is in the title of the post. Yes, the word or phrase should be in the text too! Your blog really doesn’t need much optimization. You have a well defined niche and your blog is great! You don’t need a lot of keywords in every post and really, there should be one main keyword or keyword phrase per post. If you pile in the same keywords on every post it will make each post less relevant. You want each to be unique and different from others even if they are similar
Wow, that was a great post. I found it very easy to read and understand. Thank you so much!
Alex D: Thanks Alex! If you have any questions, feel free to ask
Hi Bobby,
This is a bit confusing to me as well. I think it’s the linking with the Anchor text that has me going
Menopauseprincess: Do you know what anchor text is? Lets say you write a post. In this post you want a link to another blog. You will highlight some text and add in the link using your text editor. The text you highlight to be linked is the anchor text! Let’s say you wanted to link to my post. The phrase “seo keywords” is the anchor text. You would highlight it and link it. Any text can be anchor text. The anchor text you use to link to another blog or your own posts should be carefully chosen. When you look at my blogroll, you see a list of anchor text. The url that each individual anchor text link is not listed. It’s hidden. It’s just a link. Do you understand?
Please let me know if you don’t! My goal is to help all of you become more tech savvy
Sue: I’m confused on something. Debbie Dolphin has site that is different than her blog? You said her site, not her blog has very high page rank? Please clarify so I’ll know what you mean!
The one question I want to ask you is have you submitted your site to Google and the other search engines?
Ah! Thanks Bobby.
As it turns out, I do know what anchor text is— I just didn’t know that’s what it was CALLED.
I think I’ve got it now, the next step is to put your lessons into practice!
Menopauseprincess: I knew that you already knew what anchor text is! Only 5 months ago I didn’t know it was called anchor text either! Now you will never forget
Currently, I am writing a post called “Lighthouse Quagmire” where the title will be in the text and the Technorati Tags. My question is how do we verify the results of using keywords?
Debbie Dolphin: How do you verify results using keywords? There is no cut and dry answer. It is very complicated as seo is NOT an exact science. I cannot answer that question in one post. The elusive answer you seek will come after you have gained much experience! It takes a ton of analytics and experience to discern what your results are. It’s like asking, “How do we verify the results of a positive attitude on a person’s life?” Ha ha ha…I’ll bet you didn’t expect that huh? I’ll be searching for something you can sink your teeth into on this. Give me a little time
So how do we do it? Disrupt the balance?
Random Magus: By applying the seo techniques in this post to your blog. Because your blog is not a money oriented blog, you should use this keyword approach! It’s as simple as that
Wow Bobby, looks like u have ur hands full here helpin ppl improve their blogs!
Genie Princess: Did you officially change your name to Genie Princess? I will point out, you will no longer be Revellian’s #1 commenter of all time if you do
How nice …an informative and concise post about SEO that can be easily understood by me, I am always looking to become more informed as far as all this goes. This topic is one that we all want to be learning a lot more about.I hope that you will do some more posts about SEO in the upcoming months, Bobby. Hey, I love it even though you never mentioned the word ‘ Pizza ‘…( not even once! )…Still,it’s a really tasty offering, none the less.
Thanks so much for sharing and a Great day to you
Jesse .. !
Jesse: Thanks! Yeah, no pizza today! The only posts I don’t appy seo to are the memes. They are not really applicable. I hope this post helps. Every new post I write, I do research using the adwords tool to find the right keyphrase before I write it!
Bobby, help!
I went to check my rank on Technorati and it says 403 Forbidden! Do youn know why this would be? I am in a panic!
I’m sorry to hijack your comments but I’m desperate!
Menopauseprincess: Technorati has problems all the time! I wouldn’t worry about it! No need to panic. Plus you have tons of evil hackers performing all kinds of nasty deeds all over the web everyday! What is not good is that your average hacker with no college degree knows more about programming and website construction than most of the engineers that work any of these big corporations!
Sue: Well, it looks like you have a good understanding of how all this stuff! All I can say is that you want your site listed in as many places as possible. References from other blogs is good too! In my side bar under delicious, is a site from seo expert Jim Westergren. In my opinion, he knows more than anyone. Read through his site and you can find some useful information.
I resubmit my site every 6 months to every place I can. Some directories are bad about not giving people the time of day. Anyway, I added you to my blogroll and I hope that helps a little too!
Revellian, thanks for both the link in your blogroll, and the pointer to Jim Westergren’s site. I’d not seen his before, and you are right, he’s absolutely correct in what he’s saying. Very excellent advice on his part.
One thing about Lighthouse News and New England Lighthouses Blog, is that I don’t think too many of those that are interested in lighthouses and restoration do a lot of blogging. In a sense, I feel like we’re breaking new ground. Most of our readers are going to be older, more used to static sites, and we don’t have that many blogs in our little niche to link up with. Do a blog search for lighthouse in Google and you’ll see what I mean. Most of our links will have to come from static sites, I think.
That’s why I was so glad to find a good site like Debbie’s. It’s updated often, and well written. But a total of three decent bloggers on lighthouses isn’t very much for linking. So, what do you do in that situation?
Hi Sue! I recommend you add more to the site. Perhaps add other types of articles. Participate in a community meme. Use some viral marketing techniques. Add posts about things other than just lighthouses and restoration. Maybe make the site non-static. Write a post about yourself, your family, your blogging goals and try to make all of it compliment the main theme of your site!
Just try something new, inject some excitement into your blog. All these ideas will help and while people are there, they’ll have lots of lighthouse pictures to admire! I do all these things on my blog and they all work!
Sure, I have lots of advice but I also have personal articles about my life and philosophy and I have made making good friends my main thing. I love chatting through comments and it has become one of the things people seem to really enjoy. I have very much enjoyed chatting with you and I will come visit after I finish my posts
Thanks for calming my nerves, Bobby. You’re right, it seems to be working okay now.
Menopauseprincess: I added you to my blogroll! I find that mybloglog has a lot of problems too. Just ignore Technorati if it’s messed up and check back later
Thank you for adding me to your blogroll, I’m honored.
Menopauseprincess: It’s the least I could do, you have been a great supporter and I am honored to have you as a friend
I know what I’ll be doing this weekend.
Thanks for the awesome tips Bobby!
Rolando: Thanks Rolando! I feel like this post is one of my best so far and I hope it helps! Nearly all the posts out there on this subject require a person to be extremely fluent in html. I’d guess that 90% of all bloggers are not. Have a great day
Thanks for sharing this information, Bobby. I was unaware how seo keywords work. I greatly benefited from this post.
I have never heard of that WordPress plug-in. I will check it out. Thank you!
Erina Hart: I would recommend reading as much as possible on the subject. There is a lot more to it than what I put in my post. I wanted to give people a general idea
Great post. I love when I learn something new.
Mike: You sure this is new for you? Seems like you are pretty sharp to me! Thanks
