Content: The King’s Illegitimate Stepchild
Content is not King
I hear it all the time, “Content is King”. Wouldn’t that be nice if it were? We would like to think it’s king, but unfortunately it is isn’t. Maybe it’s good it isn’t. What exactly determines if content is good? What is the criteria by which you judge “good content”?
The truth is, there are many variables that determine whether content is good or not. If you are a money blogger, you may think personal blogs aren’t worth linking to or reading. If you are a real writer (story author, deep introspective expressions, progressive philosophies, etc.) you may think money blogs are a disease. Maybe you don’t care one way or another, you are here for friendship and fun!
Search Engines Don’t Care About Content
That’s right, search engines could care less about website content. There is only one factor that determines good content to a search engine, that is money! Do you think I’m wrong?
If content were king then money bloggers would be on the bottom of every list! That is a fact! Do you take offense to this absolute fact? Please, say I’m wrong. I dare you, I double dare you to say I’m wrong. Google does not care about you. They only care about money!
Content is only king if you have tons of links connecting to that content!
That my friends is fact. It’s a cold, hard fact you need to get realistic about. Using any type of promotion you can will help. Article submission, Stumbles, Diggs and anything you can think of will help.
If more non-money bloggers paid attention and used techniques of seo, and many other concepts, it would help change the way search engines judge content. Maybe your blog has fantastic non-money content. If you do not apply seo tactics to your blog, you are letting a small percentage of bloggers rule the internet.
I Read Every Type of Blog
That’s right, I read every type of blog. From Money to mothering, I read it. I now present a list of link love for a spectrum of incredible content!
First I present my great friend from Singapore, JaniceNG! That’s right. She has two incredibly handsome sons Amos and Zac. Hey, these little fellas are superstars in the blog world and they don’t even have blogs yet! She is on the edge, almost in the top 10k on Technorati. I’m here to give this lovely mom a boost!
Check out Amos and Zac on “A Day at the Beach“! How about these cute pictures in “Any Strawberry Today“? We are also pulling for Janice’s brother to get well. Read, “You Mean a Lot To Me…” where she gives a lot of love to her loyal friends. Go visit Janice and say hi! She is simply fantastic!
I cannot mention Janice without mentioning my other three angels. That’s right. I’m Bobby. These are Bobby’s Angels! These 4 girls as a whole are my biggest supporters. I couldn’t live without them. They inspire me and I love them. Take the time to get to know them. They are beautiful and super-cool. It don’t get no better!
My first angel (I’ve known her the longest and she is angel #1) is the beautiful Genie Princess, Mariuca! Yay Marzie! She has an on line business blog, Mariuca’s Perfume Gallery. It will be huge soon. Wait and see. She recently designed what is possibly the most successful meme on the net, Join Our Magical Flying Carpet Ride. It has generated TONS of links. This girl has power. Everyday I watch link after link pour into my blog because I was lucky enough to be a part of it. Thanks Marzie! What’s even cooler is if you participate in her meme, she will link to you! That is cool! Marzie is my idol!!!!!
My next angel is the sultry Jeanchia! Another beautiful babe with a talent for writing about food! She makes food seem sexy, and that is awesome! Check out her blog “A Great Pleasure“. You’ll be glad you did. She has recently become involved in the money game and seems to be kickin’ some major booty! Go Jean! Read how giving she on “Late But Here, AGP Comfy Quilt“.
Last but not least is my latest add to the angel crew, Emila, from Emila’s Illustrated Blog! For those of you who don’t know this incredibly talented and beautiful artist, you are missing out! She does it all from artwork to cash. She is incredible! Check out her page of Illustrations and Paintings!
Now I present the introspective sweetheart of wondrous philosophical depths, Karen, from WaterLearner! Karen’s blog has quickly become one of my daily stops. I can’t make with out her refreshing point of view. Go Karen!!!!!
My next link is to the coolest guy on the web, the super-blogger himself, the Brown Baron. This tech wizard has given me more link love than any other guy. I couldn’t make it without him. He is THE BEST! I have something special in store for him!!!!!
Next are three of his good buddies (my good buddies too). Mike from Ordinary Folk. Mike is already a star and is possibly the most talented blogger on the entire web. When I say that, I mean it! I told him he’s ordinary alright, an ordinary legend! Then there is Bush Mackel, another great blog. Filled with tech tips, video game insights and an assortment of every kind of content you can think of. Plus, he is a great guy! Next, there is Aaron Cook from Aaron Cook Dot Com. Aaron is one of the coolest and most generous people I know. Another of those I call the best!
Next I present my choice for the two best seo/ money blogs on the web. First there is the Jedi Master of SEO, Jim Westergren. I don’t personally know Jim yet, but nobody knows more about seo than him! He has THE content!
Next is a rising superstar whom I have learned a great deal from, the unbelievably talented Courtney Tuttle. Court’s blog is in a word, fantastic. He explains the most complicated techniques in a way most anyone can understand. Court has the best overall money blog I have ever read. In my opinion, nobody even comes close. Plus, he is a very cool guy with integrity and class!
Next, I present 4 of the most talented female bloggers on the web. If content were king, these ladies would be on the front cover of Time Magazine. They are: Amber from Random Magus. Her blog is deep, thought provoking and philosophical. Amber is simply a writer of astonishing talent, a must read!
Next is the incredible Adria from InCinq. She has in my opinion, the most original blog ever! She is already a legend. Adria is also one of the sweetest and genuinely artistic women I have ever met (she is also one of my first friends on line).
Then there is the writer of writers, Why Paisley. Controversial, emotional and pure genius. She is one of the best. Next is the new kid on the block, the Mighty Morgan. She just bought her own domain…Go Morgan! This girl is one great writer! I am simply floored by her talent. Do not hesitate to read this introspective, philosophical female!
Last but certainly not least is my new great buddy Rolando from RPlayground! He’s one of those guys you think you’ve known all your life. We quickly became friends and it is very cool! His blog is honestly written and has what I love most, heart! Another must read!
I have to stop here, but I am far from done. Expect a lot more link love from me! Gee, I am leaving so many people out. I will get to everyone of you talented folks, so don’t fret!
Please, please stumble this post, I’ll be your fan forever!!!!!

Aaron Cook: Thank you!!!!! I was already your fan for life, this now exends it into the afterlife!
Hi Bobby!
It’s 1030am on a Saturday morning here. I made myself a sandwich and my usual coffee. Checking out my daily-must-see-blogs and yippeeee! Such nice things here being written about me!
I really appreciate your encouragement and support to my humble blog. I am a beginner in blogging. Still learning.
But with Bobby around, I feel so safe. Anything I have problem, Revellian is where I go.
Nice Weekend to you Bobby!
WaterLearner: I support you 100% Karen! The only thing that made me feel bad was not listing all the links I wanted to. They will be on my next link post! We are all learning. The more I learn the closer I get to that special mind set of being a inquisitive child, wondering and taking it all in. While many strive to be experts, I strive to be a beginner. You have a great weekend yourself Karen
Wow Bobby I was enjoying the article seeing and agreeing on all your choices for blogs you liked until I got to mine, hahaha.
It’s an honor to be mentioned with these top bloggers. They are my favorites as well. You can sure pick’em. Thank you very much.
Rolando: There are so many others I want to list but I’ll have a new load of links for lots of others next time!!!!!
You have been such a great friend, I had to list you. Your blog has an aura of warmth and honesty, I really admire you for being such a great gentleman! Here’s to you Rolando!!!!!
When you speak, we listen. You have such a breath and depth of knowledge, it’s amazing. And you’re responsive and a good friend, it’s no wonder you have such great friends.
Rolando: Thank you! Like I told Karen, I strive only to be a beginner. It is as a beginner that we learn the most. Once we know something that cup becomes filled. I make sure to always keep mine empty! I guess that’s why it takes me two minutes to drink a cup of coffee! The symbolism just kills me, ha ha ha
Its me again, there’s error with your shout.
I wanted to celebrate with popcorn there… hehe

I’m so thrilled today. Thank you once again for telling me. You just make my day, Bobby
I hope you have a good weekend.
Janice: I think you were top 10K before I published my post! I stayed at 10,150 for two straight weeks! I didn’t want you having any fluctuations and I wanted you to be no questions asked, pure top 10k! Janice Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you have no content then what are people going to read? I think you’re overreacting a little, but you have a point. Surely it’s a combination of content and promotion. Can you have one without the other and still succeed?
You have thousands of blogs with the same content, some are popular and some are not. I’m saying that money oriented bloggers are the minority as far as blogs are concerned. They are outnumbered by a mile. Once I’ve read a money blog, I know what it said. I have no reason to look at it again.
I am certainly not going to read some A-list blog and kiss their ass to make them notice me. I am not going back unless they become my friend. So far I have some fantastic friends and I have made the same effort with them as I have made with money bloggers.
The difference is that the money bloggers don’t care to get to know me but all the other people do. When I get ranked with a page rank of 3 or better (which I fully expect when Google updates) and people come out of the woodwork wanting to link to me because I have rank, I will see through their lack of compassion and lack of integrity.
I am not overreacting, when I see the best writers on the web getting no attention whatsoever it really bothers me. People who easily qualify for a book deal, etc. are ignored simply because they are not chasing down links from the top blogs. I don’t blame them. The top bloggers are no more important than me or anyone else.
I am teaching many of these bloggers how to promote their blog, step by step and I spend countless hours personally helping them for free. Look, the only way content is deemed good is if it is linked from highly ranked blogs. Just because a blog is highly ranked doesn’t mean it has good content! Good content is subjective.
Hi Bobby!
A post that got us thinking. But ultimately, a successful blog should have both excellent contents and the extra power to be linked by many and to earn big money. =)
Oh anyway, we have voted for u! Keep up the great work!
Nafa: Thanks Nafa! The one thing bloggers do that gets under my skin, is when they become highly ranked, they drop all their friends and delete their blogroll. They realize that their friends are much less important than making money. Then of course the sell the links to their blog. I will never sell links to my blog, even for a million dollars. I will turn it down cold.
There are other ways of making money besides selling and buying friendship:) Thanks for the vote Nafa
Hi Bobby. I found your blog through Rolando?s Rplayground. You have some excellent material. I will definitely be back
(By the way, I admire your three column layout. I have never seen a functioning blog that has two narrow sidebars side-by-side.)
Erina Hart: Hi Erina! It is a pleasure to meet you. I remember seeing you at Rolando’s place. Thanks so much for the compliments and I’ll be sure to come visit you
That is sweet, Bobby. It is a pleasure to meet you too!
He he, no worries, happy to help u with some linklove!
Anyway, I’ve just updated my genie list, hop over when u can to update ur list!
Genie Princess:I will take care of that! Thanks Princess
Thanks for the mention , I’m honored! I totally agree with you, content definitely can’t be called King by itself. Actually it’s kind of funny that everyone calls it that.
Court: You are welcome! We all can find a way to make it here. Each of will have to do find our own individual way of making our content standout, be read and be linked to. Another thing is your niche could make a big or little difference. All I’m saying is if there’s a will, there’s a way!
Bobby- Great post! You are SO right! The SEO stuff is important and pretty much your site is my one-stop-shop for all things relating to SEO tips! I also like that as a blogger you are willing to “call a spade … a spade,” or in other words, be honest. I do think that it is easy to slide into patterns and follow only similar blogs to your own. I know this because I do it, not on purpose, but it has happened to me before. Sorry it has taken me so long to get back in the swing of things! Things in Barrettland have been a little nuts! I hope this finds you well my friend! Take care!
Barrett Laurie: I have read a lot, I mean a lot! I am not an expert and don’t claim to be. There are only a handful of people I know of who qualify as experts in this area. I cannot stand reading how some of these people claim to be experts when they are not. They tell us to make it in blogging, to become an authority in something. Sorry, being an authority is proven, not claimed! Thanks Barrett!
Hi Bobby,
Loved this post! As you know I’m still learning my way around the blogospehere; a lot of the things I’ve learned right here, reading and asking questions.

I’ve also been to a lot of the blogs you’ve mentioned, because I found them here as well. In fact, I made my very first blogging friend from coming here, and I do love your “content”.
I wrote a post about hating memes and sure enough I was tagged right after that! As it turns out it was Marzie’s, I mean Genie Princess, and boy am I glad I did it, I have been linked like crazy which is great for someone who’s relatively blogging young.
Your site has been a goldmine of information, assistance, and friendship. I
am very glad you’re here!
Menopauseprincess: Thank you so much! Memes are like a stormy, love-hate relationship. You love them, you hate them sometimes they get on your nerves! One time, I was tagged 19 times on one weekend from 19 completely different memes. 6 of the people who tagged stopped visiting because I didn’t do their meme. I’m sorry! You cannot do them all!
You know what, it’s ok. If tag someone and they don’t do it, I don’t care. It won’t keep me from tagging them again or vice-versa. I know how it is and it can at times get out of hand. Awards are like that too sometimes! I love when you visit me, we have had some very nice and beneficial conversations!

You are so right. We all want to think content is so important, after all, the all mighty Google tells us it is so. However, it is obvious, if you check the search engines that the folks that get the good placements are the ones that spend the cash.
Article submissions and directory submissions are helpful for backlinks and free but can be very time consuming. I think it’s important that all bloggers learn the necessities of SEO techniques. It’s a shame to have excellent content that’s only seen by a handful of readers.
Dawn: It’s all about the mighty dollar! SEO is something non-money bloggers especially should learn!
thanx for informed that content is not king..cause I’ve seen a lot of..blogging tips, said that…if you want to increase your traffic…You should make your content…Nice and steady….
So..now I understood~
Kenneth: I’m playing devil’s advocate. Of course, the heart of a great site, is comprised of great content. Great content, without using many smart concepts, marketing techniques, etc, is not enough to gain a site true success.
Some of the best content goes through it’s life being unnoticed by but a handful of people. This assures the blogosphere that money bloggers stay on top. The reason unknown, incredibly talented writers are never as successful as they could be, is their own faults. It’s just like how many of us blame our leaders for the worlds problems, when we are to blame, not them!
Hey Bobby - thank you so much. You’re the best!
Random Magus: Amber, I meant every word I said. I think YOU are the best!!!!!
i disagree… content is king… who care about money…
Nolawi: I don’t think you understood the meaning of my post!!!!!!!!!!! To you and I content is king. To Google your content is meaningless unless it has tons of links connecting ti that content. Who cares about money? The search engines do, thats the point. We allow this to happen by not applying seo tactics, etc. to our blogs, especially if it’s a non-money blog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I DO NOT CARE ABOUT MONEY, IF YOU READ THE POST YOU WILL SEE THAT IS MY REASON FOR WRITING IT.
you do have a point, content is only king if it is linked to which makes it very hard for new sites, but you must have good content to get linked to in the first place and keep your readers coming back.
in terms of seo i heard it is becoming less important each day, what is starting to count especially with google is off page seo, i.e. sites linking to you. although on page seo is useful for niche topics
Subconscious Mind: Thank you very much! Very good point. There are many differing opinions and seo is an evolving art. What ever is required to be popular and successful will somehow always be maximized by using the ever changing methods of seo!
Good content is completely subjective. Most A-list bloggers in my opinion have boring content and I don’t read them very often. Once you’ve read most A-list blogs once, there’s no need to link to them unless you are linking only for personal gain. I don’t link to A-list blogs, it’s my policy
I think that’s what makes you great. That you treat people the same way regarding of page rank or lack thereof.
Lisa: Awwww, thank you so much! My parents taught me that a garbage man and the president are equal. The difference is that the garbage man probably actually loves his wife and spends more time with his kids! What does page rank have to do with friendship anyway?
You know, I have to agree. I have been getting my feet wet with the SEOs and money making and what I have found is what you have written. Which sends me into a crazy spiral.
I believe my content is gold standard, but who doesn’t (about their own content)? And then I run into these money making blogs that pull down $7,000 per month writing with English as the second language.
It makes no sense. I guess I am an artiste who must suffer for my craft.
p.s. I stumbled you.
Sorry my 2-year-old interrupted me. The rest of the thought was:
I get sent into a cycle: I have good content, but I can’t seem to publicize it to the right audience. But I can’t get in the SEO because I’m not writing about making money. A viscous cycle, it is.

This is such a refreshing post to read! I have a blog that is not tech or blog related, and sometimes I just give up because most of the advice seems to imply that if you aren’t blogging for money then you dont’ count.
Your post really inspired me to get back to doing seo and make myself count!
Thank you,
~Z
