Thanks To All
First I want to thank all of you who left a comment here. Some were short and sweet, some were long. All of them were good. I was cursed at by one mysterious Mr. Schlomo who hid his address. Mr. Schlomo, you failed to realize that you left plenty of tracks for me to know exactly who you are. I was very surprised to uncover your identity.
All Bloggers Have A Purpose
Some of you have the misconception that I don’t like A-list bloggers and nothing could be further from the truth. We are all people and we all, regardless of what some of us think, have feelings. If an A-list blog makes $10,000 per month it doesn’t mean that person is no good.
Making money on the web with a blog is different than any other business as well as being the same. People learn how to work the system. How the whole thing evolves is controlled by us and the system itself. I do believe the wealth shouldn’t be so one sided though. It’s just like real life. There are few on top, some in the middle and tons on the bottom.
I wrote this two part series as a wake up call for our blogging self awareness.. We all have a purpose. That purpose should and will evolve for most of us as we learn more and more about ourselves and life. I say many negative things about A-list bloggers and it is just to incite valuable and deep discussion.
Thanks to my readers, my blog has had many incredible discussions. Some of them are unforgettable. That is because of the wonderful people who read, think and get involved here. I have made some very cool new friends the past month and I am truly thankful for all of you.
Incredible Commentary
I could write all day long about this. It’s one of my favourite subjects. Please read all the comments on part one as I could never have dreamed of so many valuable comments. I was humbled by all of you. I think that the most important part of this blog are the commentators.
Do What You Do Because You Love It!
One thing I love about all of my regular readers is all of them write what they love. I cannot express to you how much all of you mean to me! The more you blog, the harder it becomes to keep it going. The bloggers who know the game, know how easy it is to get burnt out. If you really know me, you know how many times I have almost given up.
My favourite bloggers do what they do naturally. They write what they do out of love for what they write about. Though I don’t mention all of you in the next section, I sincerely thank you all for reading and leaving comments!
A Few Special Thanks
I actually feel bad that I am not listing all of the people who left valuable comments. Trust me, it not personal at all. It would make this post entirely too big and that is not good.
I felt that one commenter said it best. That was the Brown Baron. The Brown Baron is by far one of my favourite bloggers of all time. He takes the time to really think and write valuable comments. If there is one guy who has the ability to compete with Techcrunch, it is him (uh oh, I just linked to an A-lister! Hey, he is incredible and there is no doubt about it!). The Brown Baron said:
What should be changed is the perception that if a blog does a meme, has low PR, has a long blogroll, its worth nothing.
That sums it up. The perception should be changed. Professional bloggers look at my blog all the time but they never come back! Is what I write less valuable than what they write? The truth is, they don’t take the time to actually read what I write. I know exactly who was here and how long. That’s too bad.
Christy, from Christy’s Coffee Break said:
This is interesting stuff Bobby! Believe it or not I dont spend a lot time thinking about how Google works etc. But I do blog to earn money.
I link to who I want, do what I want, I never check someones pagerank or rankings before I link to them, and I never would. I wouldnt change for anyone, hey Im a poet, I do my own thing.
Christy has it right. Do what you want but don’t compromise your principles doing it. Christy gives out links, a lot of links. She also has a high ranking blog. She writes professionally but supports any new upcoming blogger who needs some help! I have come to like her a lot!!!
Another blogger who I haven’t given nearly enough attention to is the Menopauseprincess. She said:
When the newbie blogger is told they cant have fun with memes, they cant write about whatever they like but must give their audience (which they dont have yet) quality content, and basically told they cant be themselves, thats when they start to rethink.
Some will get with the program, emulate their idols, and start down the road to A-list blogging, some will discontinue blogging realizing that its not a get rich quick scheme, and some will stick around and find their own way, and because theres no mistakes in the universe theyll be led to someone who will help them, respond to their comments and tag them on a meme
![]()
I like that! She has been a great commentator here and I have a lot of respect for her! I replied to her with what I felt was my best line:
Its like getting a 1000 Christmas presents but only giving out presents to the people who bought you expensive ones. Could you imagine if thats how Christmas was? Its a common theme in life. Its like when a rich movie star goes into a restaurant and the owner says,On the house for rich movie stars like you!
Why doesnt that owner give free food to poor people? The rich movie star doesnt need a free meal!!!!!!
![]()
Ha ha ha ha!!!!! Pretty funny huh? Isn’t that crazy? Wow! I wish I could include all of you and I will in other posts! It’s part of making my commentators the real stars here!
A Special Thanks
If it weren’t for one very special blogger, I wouldn’t be here writing this. I learned how to comment from her. She say’s I’m her mentor. Not true! She is my mentor. She replies to ALL of her comments and makes everyone feel a little of her magic. Nobody gets truckloads of comments from friends like her.
If you didn’t know, this blogger is a professional writer in real life. Her blog is her playground where she loves to have fun! Who is this sweet person? She is none other than the Genie Princess herself, Mariuca! Check out her new contest! A free art masterpiece just for leaving a comment. It doesn’t get better than that!

The first part of this series was a blockbuster. The second is a knockout.
As with everything in this carousel we call life, it’s all about perception. Bloggers should remember that it doesn’t matter what the big boys think of you. You know what you are, let your light shine through in your own way.
Thank you for the incredible compliments Bobby, that blew me away.

Hi Bobby,
Wow that was some discussion and reading through the comments was amazing.
I agree that many of the A-list bloggers aren’t really ‘bloggers’, they are money spinning sites, good luck to them. It does not give them any right to look down their noses at those in the middle or at the bottom of the pile.
Mooching around the blogosphere it’s easy to find many excellent blogs which in time will gain more exposure, but it is something that one has to keep working at and not neglecting it. Content is still king, but it would be a wonderful day if google were toppled and a more worthy contender entered the frame to even things up.
As you have so rightly said, we all write what we do simply because we love it and by making new friends we keep it spinning around.
Google and politicians could learn a great deal from ‘ordinary’ bloggers.
Have a great day

Damn straight! For, that is from where passion comes. And from there comes action and growth and change!
Sorry I haven’t commented more as of late, but I’ve been inundated with some pretty heavy things that have happened to one of my best friends lately. She suffers from Lupus and has had a turn for the worst. But hopefully, all will work itself out.
In any event, I wanted to stop by to let you know how much I enjoy reading what you have to say and share.

Many of the a-list bloggers aren’t really bloggers, like Colin so eloquently stated. They are really just marketers and their blog is their product or at least that’s how I see it. If people think you hate A-Listers they really misunderstood the point. It’s not the people you hate, it’s the greed and egocentric manner in which many of these folks operate. To be honest I blame Google for much of that. I remember the pre Google internet fondly. Ahhh, the good ol’ days!

My humorous point about Boycotting Google in your last post was about the statement you made that “Google is also the most unethical corporation in the world today.” How do you know Google is that type of problem?
Please do not misunderstand me, I am not defending Google or opposing Google either. Yet, I am sure every Google employee believes they are helping people with better access to the Internet.
I am curious about how you would go about creating a fair level playing field so every profit and non-profit Blog or website would be treated equally? And most importantly, would your critics view your Internet rules as fair or as unethical rules?

Hi Bobby,
I totally agree with you on blogging from the heart. I struggle because of my illness but I have a “Mission,” and that is to help people who suffer from the same thing or any chronic illness.
Yes, I would love to make money because both my husband and I are disabled. However, my first priority is to help people.
I know many people loose their jobs and can no longer work because they have a chronic illness. I am trying to post tips, information and my own experience to educate people with and without a chronic illness.
Only those that suffer from chronic illnesses and loose their jobs can truly understand how we loose self-esteem, income, the ability to do many things and even friendships. Yes, friendships, because nobody wants to be around disabled, fatigue people. It saddens me to experience this and mostly to see others experience this horrific illness.
Sorry for the long comment. I just wanted you to know I agree with you and I am so thankful for having met you, my friend.

The discussions brought up on this page are amazing. I, for instance, often wonder how people think and react to to blogging. Comments on your page are so much different than other sites. Besides learning from you, the best part about stopping by your site is becoming “aware” of revelvant Revellian topics.

Yo Bobby!
Can I officially claim that you are my Blog Mentor?
Indeed, most started blogging in a somewhat innocent manner. An avenue to express and exchange one’s views freely.
As with many other things in life, when the big temptations that comes in units of $ comes into picture, surprising and hidden traits of individuals might spring-forth.
I agree with you that it takes genuine effort to keep a blog going. As one’s influence in the blogosphere grows, it takes effort to even maintain the simple courtesy of replying to every comment!
At the end of the day, it’s the mastermind behind every blog that determines the direction that the blog wants to develop. I am sure earning some extra cash through blogging sounds attractive. But I have also encountered many many good bloggers who blog and help like they don’t care about pagerank and money.
There is a quote that I love that goes:
“Dance like no one is watching;
Love like you will never get hurt;
Work like you do not need the money.”
Maybe we could add one more line to the good quote:
“Blog like you can’t care less about PageRank!”
Have a Yippedee Happy Weekend, Bobby!

Amen Brown Baren. I think what you’re getting at Bobby is that this stuff can make one feel like one is back in high school and not in the “cool clique.”
If you haven’t guessed, I was not granted access to the cool clique.
I like the idea of blogging because I believe we are judged on our actual talent and abilities based on the reaction to our CONTENT.
I know, there are always people who cheat the system. And apparently there will always be those people.
I am proud to be one of the writers who does it for the love of the written word and not to game the system.

Bobby, do you ever not write from your heart? I don’t believe you can. And, I don’t believe you will for the sake of others.
One thing I took from this post was the importance of remaining true to yourself in what you write. I don’t ever want to get to a place where I am pondering and stressing over what to write because of what my readers will think and say. Everything we write is not for everyone and knowing that allows me to write and post freely.
Now, I’m going over to check out Christy because I like what she had to say and Maurica since she was the one who encouraged you!

Sorry, Bob! I missed your feedback comment to my comment on Oct 4th. I scrolled to your answer to Dawn and thought your “tough question on a fair system” was an answer to both Dawn and me.
I hope I didn’t put on the spot to answer about Google? Yet, is good to know how we all experience the Web whether it is a good or bad experience. I placed Adsense on my Blog only as a service to my readers fully expecting to receive little or no pay for doing so. I have been burned by a few online money scams!
There are also other simple solutions to create a fair field for everyone which may not be perfect but hopefully a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, the explanation is over 400 words which may be too long to post in a comment?

One possible Fair playing field solution for Search Engines, Part 1
Every Blog, Forum, or Web-site is no different than a Book! Some sites are short stories and others are novels!
Every time a person is searching for a book at the Library, they either search by the Title or Author. The Web can use a similar level playing field that has worked for Libraries over the past 131 years called the Dewey Decimal System.
Some will say doesn’t the Web do this with .edu, .gov, .com, .net, .org, etc? And to some extent that might be true, yet let’s examine the keyword “lighthouse” in a search engine with the expectation of only receiving only sites writing about physical Lighthouses with a beacon in the Lantern Room. Unfortunately, everyone who uses the term “lighthouse” in their business title is included. At the head of the class at Google is “Lighthouse International” (http://www.lighthouse.org/), a organization dedicated to preserving vision. A great cause yet, this is not what we expected to be in first place unless our search was for a Vision Lighthouse!

Debbie Dolphin: Hi Debbie! One thing Google does many people are unaware of is in the way they cancel Adsense accounts. I signed up for Adsense. I put one tower ad on my site. It was up 7-8 days and Google cancelled my account for invalid clicks. I never once clicked my own ads. It was installed correctly and I followed the instructions exactly.
I was upset and contacted Google about my adsense account. They sent me to a forum to complain!!!!! I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT. I offered to have my host send them all of my server logs (which I cannot alter, only they control that). Google told me to please refrain from complaining as any further complaints will be disregarded!
I tried for weeks to get in contact someone at Google who could help me. They e-mailed me saying to please refrain from complaining as any further complaints will be disregarded! They told me that as long as I am Bobby Revell with my SSN, that I can never reapply for adsense for the rest of my life!!!!!
That is unethical especially considering I offered information that could easily PROVE that I did nothing wrong. That was the day I lost my love for who used to be my favourite search engine.
They need to change that for starters. They also need a new algorithm. I believe they have one but it has yet to be revealed. I think they need to combine a system where users have a say and use some type of pageranking system. One thing they can do is have penalties for anyone using money to pay for or use any method (involving money) to get votes if such a system is implemented.
We all need money. The way the current algorithm works is unfair for those who don’t necessarily blog for money. There needs to be incentives for those who help and promote low ranking blogs as well as high ranking blogs. There needs to be a way to judge “good content” also. Of course anything you can think of could be manipulated, especially with money!
The only people who would find my ideas unfair would be high ranking money bloggers. I will point out that they are the minority not the majority!!!! I hope I have answered your question!
