Ethical Theories of Social Networking
Cater to your community
I have my own ethical theories of social networking based on friendship and smart linking techniques. Learn and apply them on your blog now. Don’t put it off!
There are many ways to get ideas for posts. One really good idea is to find a post that is interesting to you and write a related one of your own. I’ve told you all that it’s better to link to someone’s post rather than their home page.
Why? Because it is your content that counts, not your site’s home page!
How To Link To A Related Post From Another Blog
This may seem remedial to many of you but people inadvertently do things that are not good for your site! Incoming links are good, but be smart and helpful to your buddies by doing things that can help them in the way you link!
Find a Few Keyword Phrases For Your Home Page
Use the Google Adword Tool to find a few for your site. To give you some really great hands on experience, I will use some blogging buddies of mine to show you how to be super beneficial and technically proficient!
Let’s look at my very good friend, the Brown Baron. The words ‘Brown Baron‘ are the anchor text in the previous sentence. Now do you see what anchor text is? It is the text which is anchored to the link for his home page.
He writes about technology, gadgets, cool new programs, security bulletins and gives out link love to his fellow bloggers every week. This makes him an inspiration to me and tons of other people. I looked up gadgets with the adword tool and chose the cool, niche related phrase, tech gadgets.
I linked this anchor text to his home page! Now he has an incoming link from me using keyword related anchor text! I could link to his page using a creative sentence like this:
A great technology site is Brown Thoughts, which is about tech gadgets and internet security among many other subjects. Notice I left his site’s title unlinked and linked the key phrases instead! Now he has two beneficial incoming links using strong anchor text.
Use Keywords Everyday On Every Post
A keyword, or keyword phrase is simply something a person will type in their search bar to find information on the web. It’s really just common sense. How will someone find your content by searching the web? Seriously, how will it happen? By using keywords!
Use it in your post and the post title! Work it in naturally. Keep in mind that you can create your own niche and come up with your own key phrases!
Linking To Individual Posts
I will now show you several creative sentences which link to some of my friends posts. All of the chosen anchor text is from Google’s Adword tool. I looked up smart choices to help promote my friend’s posts. Hover your cursor over each link to see how I used the anchor text and where it’s linked to (home page or post).
Mariuca has her readers enter contests like her mug giveaway, celebrating Aidilfitri. The phrase celebrating Aidifitri is easily something that maybe used as a key phrase. It wasn’t listed in the adword tool results, so she has coined her own key phrase without even realizing it! I didn’t use her whole post title, but used the keyword part. It’s in the title and in the post. The phrase enter contests is an actual adword phrase.
The tech savvy Aaron Cook likes to use marketing videos to promote his blog. His most recent was about white hat seo tips.
My brilliant friend, The Sandman who is a web & graphics designer, wrote a post about the necessity of PC rules. Please go check out his great blog!
My awesome new friend Erina is a very creative writer for someone who loves a good read!
My philosophical buddy Karen, from Waterlearner is a place for spiritual healing! She has a wonderful post about random acts of kindness that I loved!
The friendly and supportive social networker Rolando from RPlayground has invented the blog dance!
My long time buddy from Why Paisley is one of the web’s best female writers. Check out her Three Word Wednesday (3ww)!
My wonderful friend Opal, the Vegan Momma loves vegetarian cuisine! Read her post on vegetarian cooking!
My lovely buddy Jeanchia from A Great Pleasure loves Asian food! She writes about everything including the subject of the medicinal ideas of Chinese physicians!
The Singaporean super mom Janice NG has a blog displaying her skills in good parenting. I love her post about her boy’s shaved heads!
The tech whiz, Bush Mackel loves video games! I loved his recent post about page rank!
My sweet friend, the Menopauseprincess writes with a deep love for being a positive woman! She loves vampires too!
My favourite blog team, Nafasg, loves global awareness! They are a great source of information for relationships too!
This is what I call anchor text love (I coined it first)! I hope you now know how to use anchor text! I leave my adword tool open always. Once you get familiar, you see the web as it really works! You could also (if you’re not sure) ask people what anchor text they want you to use!
How about these: keyword love, niche key phrase love - ![]()

That’s very smart linking. I usually link to their home page and I link to the title of their post. This is a lot better. I have not done it with my blog buddies before this time simply because I did not think about it! Thanks! This post has been Stumbled.
Thanks for the links. I’ve met a few new bloggers because of you and it looks like I’ll be meeting a few more oh and by the way thanks for the mention.

The way you normally link is fine! It is very good to vary how you link. Revellian is already saturated on Google so linking to my home page with Revellan is good, but using the anchor text “blogging ethics” is good for variation. All of my posts are built around the motif of one keyword phrase.
The keyword phrase is always in the post title or the hidden “title tags”. Then the keyword is in the beginning 200-400 words of the post itself. It’s a seo habit I have. Last month I didn’t even know what seo was! LOL

I’m glad you met some new folks. All my friends are really cool, nice people - just like you!
Thanks for the stumble
Hello Bobby!
Thanks a lot for the little mention. We like how u give us step by step explanations on how we link to a relevant post from another blog, and the way u make use of all your buddies, including us, as examples to illustrate how this works.
Keywords and key phrases really play a major role in optimizing your posts. That is the basic information that we all have known. But what we need to know is how we utilize the keywords and phrases to the fullest. And u have definitely enlighten us all with this comprehensive post!
Thank u so much Bobby. =)

You sound like myself I didn’t pay too much attention to SEO until a few months ago. I still need to read the ebook I purchased.
Although I don’t do it too much on Vegan Momma I do use keyword phrase quite a lot on my other websites. Thanks for the comment on my website I completely forgot that I was not using that plugin on VM. I have it installed and activated I just forget to use it.
I already know a few people on the list like Brown Baron and Bush Mackel. I’ve heard of a few others so I’ll be paying them all a virtual visit. Thanks again.

I just couldn’t do this post without Nafa! My goal is to help “train” bloggers to utilize their untapped power. Doing memes would be SO much more effective if people just used these techniques on all of them
Was I right about the keyword relationship? Is that the one you were thinking of when you did the post?
I should have known you knew about that plugin! I analyze every site I visit so I can learn how everyone does things! I am fascinated by blogging! You purchased an ebook? I have read one book so far. I think I’ll get bored with it later but I am trying to get better habits.
I’ll check out your other sites too. Just running this blog takes a lot of time! I think your VM blog has a very cool niche!
i thank you my friend for the lovely anchor text linkage… that makes me happier than anything else… it is my content that you appreciated,, and that is why i write… XXOO

Great article once again, and for all you wordpress users out there there is a little plugin that will automatically link words of your choosing to a matching website automatically when you write posts:
http://adambrown.info/b/widgets/kb-linker/
It’s nice if you have someone you really want to help plug.

Awesome tutorial Bobby and ‘anchor love’! You never seize to amaze me! I understand this a lot better now. Thank you!
Rolando’s last blog post..Take Your Blogger to Work Day
You are very welcome!!!!!! You are probably the most unique writer I know!
Dawn, I have seen this one! This would be really cool for people who may not use an adword tool religiously like me. This post did provide some good anchor text. It is 100 times more potent if my category is a keyword phrase. In that category, I have a post with that same key phrase in the title, title tags, and in the post itself. Then I link that key phrase in the post to one of your posts that is built on the same key phrase!
Many times, my title does not have the key phrase, but the hidden titletag does.
I use the allinone seo pack. On my post Pink Penguin Mission, the title tag is:
Breast Cancer Awareness Month - blogging ethics - Revellian Dot Com
The key phrase is:
breast cancer awareness
See how I did that? I know you have a strong idea of how this works! I want to “train” all the bloggers who are into this same social networking we are. Imagine just how much incredible untapped potential there is.
Simple memes can become power memes that will drain linkage from the bigger sites (how exciting).
There’s only a few keyphrases and keyword anchor text I really want linked to my home page. You should pick some 2-3, that you want. I’ll use the plug in for those particular ones if I use them in a post. I think it would be very cool to auto link any sites name like “Antibarbie” using this plug in. Now that I have written this post, this plug in seems much cooler than my initial reaction! Thanks Dawn
I wish everyone had selfhosted wordpress
Haha, this is so kind of you…..I’m very touched.

Thanks Rolando! I am constantly thinking of ways to make learning this stuff easy and fun! Thank you for being an inspirational social networker. The keyword “social networker” is a really good one for your home page. You give the term a fresh, bold meaning!!!!!
Great tutorial Bobby. This will surely help a lot of bloggers to learn the power of proper anchor text. Anchor Text Love .. I love it!
Thanks for the great links!
Brown Baron’s last blog post..Google Earth Adds YouTube Videos
Thanks Mr. Fong! I’ll be including some good links for you in upcoming posts!
I was thinking that people (especially our close knit community) can relate to the concept of link love etc. I just use this idea to show them how it’s the same for all advanced seo concepts. Anchor text love, keyword love, niche key phrase love and what not! Suddenly the ideas are easily grasped by everyone. Now, lets take this thing over with friendliness
You are welcome for these links!!!!!
Jeez Bobby, I didn’t think it was possible to like you any more but apparently it is!
Not only did you teach me something important with the portion on anchor text but I just had an Aha moment. Something really resonated with the “positive woman” keywords you chose! Hmm… this is definitely food for thought.
Do you get tired of me thanking you?
menopauseprincess’s last blog post..The Wussification of Vampires
I think I have found a unique way to make things crystal clear for anyone. I am so happy you had an aha moment!
Though you haven’t really used these ideas on your blog, I did the best I could to choose the key phrase “positive woman” for your homepage. The anchor text that’s best for my homepage is simply, “blogging ethics”.
It can be varied also. When choosing a key phrase with the adword tool, it’s important to choose one that’s middle of the road in advertiser competition and popularity.
Sometimes, keywords or phrases on the adword tool will say, “information unavailable”.
You are a positive woman and it shows in your writing!!!!!!!!
Okay Bobby, time to pull out the blackboard again. How do I use “positive woman” on my homepage? Would that be in the portion that now says “I’m putting my two cents in…?”
menopauseprincess’s last blog post..The Wussification of Vampires
hi Bobby….excellent post and great suggestions…I have a category on my front page with links to my favourite posts…I will put this post in it if that is OK with you….have a great weekend
laketrees’s last blog post..Alexander WIP
Hi MP! No. Think about what you are asking. Other people should use the anchor text “positive woman” to link to your homepage. Like I did! There is much more coming from me in future posts.
I have designed the Niche Key Phrase Meme which I’ll release soon!
Before you write your next post, choose a keyword phrase that you can work into the title. Let me go through it with you! If you had a self hosted wordpress blog, you would love blogging 100% more. I can’t even begin to tell you the awesomeness it has.
You could link to your own home page from within your own posts using positive woman. Don’t force it into a post. If you do feel that a sentence needs that phrase naturally, you can link it to your home page. This is called internal linking and in this situation, it doesn’t need to be in the post title.
The main thing is for bloggers to realize they should link to eachothers sites like this.
Look in my footer. My friend Court Tuttle who did the SEO optimization for my template is listed using his homepage keyphrase “internet marketing”. If 500 people use one of his special templates, he will have 500 OTHER sites linking to his homepage with his chosen keyphrase! SEE?
The question is, how do you get people to link to your site using a keyphrase? Court came up with his own method.
There are probably better ones for your site but as you develop, it will come to you!!!
This shows what a good teacher you are- and coming from me i hope this compliment is magnified thousands of times (thousands, so little still :P). This is cause I understand your cute little presentable tutorials, and you make it so interesting to learn. I am usually the lazy teacher, hehe ;p

Hey Bobby,
I’m about midway down one of the strings of your “favorite three posts” meme at
http://ratherthanworking.blogspot.com/2007/10/this-post-is-guaranteed-to-lead-to.html
Best of luck.
Hi Kim! I would be honoured. Thanks so much
LOL
I probably would’ve confused myself! You don’t change a thing on your home page. If another blogger links to your home page, they could use that anchor text to link to it
Hi Dave! You will need to do some work to get the full benefit. The easiest way. is to go to each person’s 3 post meme on my list and leave all of them a comment. Ask them to add your links to their post. 95% of them will do it. Only then will you be able to raise your technorati authority by 100 points. There’s no magic formula, but the framework is there for you
Hi Mr. Fong! Thank you! I see you have a new post! I must come read it!!!!
Hey Bobby!
Thanks for mentioning my blog. I really appreciate you. Thanks for writing so much and with such layman’s term on this topic. Even a techno-dumb like me can grasp the concept now
I really like the new layout of your blog. Refreshing and yet very professional.
Have a Good Weekend Bobby!
WaterLearner’s last blog post..38 Questions
Well good Karen! I’m trying to find ways to explain this stuff. I’m getting better at it. I think that the better I get to know my readers the easier it is to understand how they think and learn!
I’m glad you like my template! Thanks so much Karen!!!!!!
Magnetbabe had suggested I join in on the SEO meme and then, Dr. Sardonicus tagged me for it so here’s my notice that my post is up there! I’m a relative newbie (only a year) to blogging, not very polished for sure but trying to learn and find my way. And, from what I read in the above post of yours, I think I might be able to learn a whole lot here! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a whole lot of new blogs and posts to go read!

Yes indeed .. you are getting really better in this. You know how much of an idiot and what stupid questions I have asked you before.

Btw,thanks also for teloling me about the good links
It’s the thought that counts, and you have alot of that..
Man I really need to try that… you’re so good at this!
Bobo’s last blog post..Who?
Thanks Bobo! I’m really just a beginner! I learned all this last week
Thanks Mr. Fong!
Karen, please don’t say your questions are stupid. Words like stupid and idiot aren’t words I like! How about, Karen is smart and willing to learn! You ask GOOD questions

Thanks Jill! I have to explain that to get the most from the meme, you should go to that meme on all blogs doing it. Leave a comment on the seo post meme asking all to add your links to their post! Also add theirs to yours!
It takes work, but it will work if you do!
Don’t ya think it’s time to stop writing such good posts Bobby? I don’t know about everyone else here, but I know that personally I enjoy posts that are subpar and incoherently constructed.
How on earth do you expect me to get anything done if I read your post and think, “Hey, that was a really good post!” And then ponder some. No, I much prefer to read something and say, “What a piece of crap that was!” and then move on.
Shine on buddy,
Aaron
Speaking of crap, I read some of John Chow’s blog yesterday. Make money by bragging is his motto. I’ll be sure to NEVER read it again.
I read incoherent blogs everyday, but if I like the author I get my fix of incoherence specifically from them
. You thought this post was good? I made it up as I went along (as I do with all my posts) and was done in 8 minutes.
I don’t even have an idea of what it is until I’m halfway through it.
Thanks Aaron
I tried to do this approach on my last post and it’s not as easy as it looks to pick out good anchor text so that it still reads right! especially when mentioning a few sites in one post.
It did make me think a lot more about what I was writing though so that is good,
like you said in the above comment about making up the posts as you go along, I blast on ahead at the keyboard and just write something when I get inspired, the title of the post changes a few times during the post creation process which means I kind of go off in tangents sometimes, heck even my comments go on for ages! ( as you can see)
great post though!
Andy Bailey’s last blog post..Its different out there, Hey! who changed blogging?
That’s what happens when you love writing! Some people can plan well, I can’t write well if I plan it. I never run out of ideas and as time passes it seems like I’m having more and more ideas.
I’ve been using keywords for a few months and now I can see them and have gained an intuition with them. I think just getting into a habit of using them, especially when internally linking to your own posts makes it easier and easier.
Thanks so much Andy!
Is it beneficial to your own site to link to posts on other sites? Or is it just a great way to give back to readers of your own site?
Mike C’s last blog post..California Tunnel Fire
