It’s Blog Action Day!
My friend Joanne from The Laid Back Buddhist asked me to participate in a very important cause on her post, Power of One. I didn’t know about Bog Action Day previously. Thanks Joanne for letting myself and several others know about this! This Year’s theme is the environment.
Don’t Complain About Politics
I see people, organizations and politicians complaining about how the ozone layer is being destroyed. First of all, complaining won’t help. Impeaching George Bush will not help the environment. Instead of complaining, do something yourself. I believe solving 80% of the world’s problems can be done on a personal level!
Get Realistic About Really Helping the Environment
If you want to help the environment, here are some things you can personally do to help. I am not talking about aesthetics, I’m talking about much deeper reasons. Cleaning up garbage on the side of the highway may make it prettier but that same garbage will still have to be burned, recycled or buried in a horrid land fill.
Revellian’s Environment Tips 2007
- Cut down on buying or using anything that comes in a plastic, throwaway container. If you drink sodas, for example, use recyclable aluminum cans instead. Plastics take hundreds of years to break down. Landfills all over the world are filled with disposable plastic. Did you know that drinking or eating anything in a plastic container is filling your body with polymeric plasticides. These are toxins that have been linked with several types of cancer, including breast cancer!
- Participate in recycling anything you can. Recycling programs are available in most cities throughout America and many other countries. Please take the time to make sure you do your part. If your area recycles plastic, make sure any plastic you dispose of goes to the proper places, not your regular garbage can.
- Drive less, take public transportation or walk! Spend time outdoors and walk somewhere! Nature is beautiful and spending some time outside will help you appreciate it more!
- Use natural gas instead of electric appliances (if available). Electric plants put off tons of pollutants. Natural gas burns cleanly.
- Grow yourself a beautiful organic garden! Nothing is more delicious than fresh fruits and vegetables grown in your own backyard. If you live in a situation where you can do something like this, then do it! Gardening is fun and rewarding. You can learn how to grow a garden from free on line articles!
- Read on line books instead of buying paper ones. This is one great thing about the web! There are tons of places to get great, free literature! One of my favourites is ManyBooks.net.
These are my tips for all of you to use in your daily lives! Go to BlogActionDay.org and read what they are about. There’s lots of great resources for benefiting the world that anyone can be a part of. Read some enviromental or “green” blogs. There are lots of great sites out there we can all learn from. Thanks for reading, now go do your part to help our environment!

Wow… those are really useful and do-able stuff to help save the environment. Trust Bobby to come up with such practical tips
Bobo’s last blog post..Bobo admires her… sometimes
My favorite tip of yours is the Organic Garden. It reminds me of one of my neighbors back home…they’re so proud of their Miracle Grown garden. Or tomatoes look pitiful in comparison. But surely all the chemicals and pesticides soak into the earth and can possibly add to the contamination of ground water. Anyhow, I’m so glad you said organic! Hahaha, my mom and I just grow an assortment of herbs and tomatoes, usually. This is us being realistic about our green thumb ability!
Joanne’s last blog post..In Action, We Take
Thanks Bobo! I had no idea what to write, so I just made up my own tips. I need to practice what I preach too
Hi Joanne, that’s my fave too! I hope the cantaloupes I grew this summer didn’t soak up any pesticides…LOL!!!! I had fun participating. Thanks again for letting me know about it
I have a few more tips…
1. Bring your own cloth bags to the grocery store (some grocery stores will actually charge you less if you do so)
2. Recycle printer paper for info that isn’t important (Flip over and reprint on the blank side)
3. Don’t purchase plastic food containers invest in glass (I use pyrex storage glass containers)
4. Make your own carbonated drinks use club soda and mix with 100% fruit juice
5. Make your own cleaning products there are lots of natural sites that talk about them. I do on my Healing Yourself Naturally website. The recipes are free. I try to do my part to make people more environmentally conscious one way I can accomplish this is to offer free recipes. I didn’t link to it in my post since I don’t want my comments to go to spam.
Opal Tribble/Vegan Momma’s last blog post..Little Things Mean A Lot
another use chemical free pesticides in gardening. I think I have posted some on HYN if not I will.
Use chemical free insect repellents
Make your own beauty products, lol
I could go on and on. I practice what I preach.
Opal Tribble/Vegan Momma’s last blog post..Little Things Mean A Lot
Great tips Opal! I’ll try some of these myself!!!!
That’s a great one! I use a natural spray to keep the insects away. It’s made of onions and super hot Chinese red peppers. It works well. You definetly have inspired me to go “green”!!!
Bobby is an environmental friendly person. Cool Tips :):)

Oppps, forgotten to tell you that I’ve tagged you in my lastest post

I’m trying by using baby steps right now in the being kind to the environment. Just by not having as many garbage bags on pick-up day by breaking down cereal boxes, pizza boxes, other things that we have to put into the garbage, if I don’t use as much space there, I use fewer bags, less space used in the landfill and less money spent too in the process. Make one trip do for two and save a little gas too. Just small things now but each eventually makes a little difference.
I also added your blog to my faves too - good posts to read and learn from here!
Jeni Hill Ertmer’s last blog post..Changing Scenes
Hi Jeni, I’m taking baby steps too! At least we’ve taken a step
Thank you so much! I’ll come by!
Hey Janice! I saw that. Thanks!!!
Hey Bobby nice tips….that are practical and realistic. I think people get so caught up in the larger aspects of issues and situations that it almost becomes impossible to see the truth in HOW much changes can occur on a personal level if people just implement small solutions that in the end contribute to a greater cause….
I lOVE the new look…and yes i will write that often, as I drool over your new layout! This one I won’t copy though!!!
Mighty Morgan’s last blog post..Touched by an angel??
Thanks Morgan!
I highly recommend that you use one of Court Tuttles free SEO optimized templates should you ever decide to change! He has several on his site. There is a link in my footer.
YES…larger aspects and situations. People think that social and other types of issues are solved by rhetorical discussions on a “macro-sociological” scale. They are not. It is up to each individual to make their own choices!
Great tips Bobby. If I take a walk, I’ll need to take my laptop though. I don’t want to miss a word from the master.
Rolando’s last blog post..I See People
Hi Bobby! Great tips! I love all of them!
LOL! Rolando…I am certainly no master but I do appreciate the compliment!!!
Thanks Emila! It’s nice to see you back!!!
How refreshing! You see so many people jumping on a “band wagon” - putting up banners and such. The same people may in fact be some of the largest contributors to enviromental waste and contamination. One must be prepared to “follow” their own beliefs and change some of the personal and community actions that pollute the most. You can’t have a save the planet sign on the bumper of your giant SUV with one passenger.
I like your style
Eric “Speedcat Hollydale”’s last blog post..Hello Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers!
“Cleaning up garbage on the side of the highway may make it prettier but that same garbage will still have to be burned, recycled or buried in a horrid land fill.”
Boy, if you didn’t say it right, right there, Bobby!
In all actuality, helping the environment has little do to with “cleaning” things up. It all comes down to USAGE! Cut back on your “usage” (electric, gas, oil, water, etc.) and you will help the environment. If you don’t, then you’re just shuffling…and exchanging one pollutant for another.
Shine on,
Aaron
You’re welcome! Haha, your garden has cantaloupes?! Amazing. What else do you grow?
Joanne’s last blog post..The Personal Cheerleader
Very true Eric! It’s like when Elvis Presley being part of the anti drug movement. You can’t be part of that if you are a drug addict who was high when he gave his anti drug speeches! It’s like saying cocaine is bad and then swizzling down 9 beers
I agree Aaron! Personal usage is the source of almost all pollution

Hi Jane! I am learning to be more conscious of the waste I put out. It’s not going to be easy!
Hi Joanne! Watermelons, tomatoes, cucumbers and I have a giant pomegranate bush!
Good post Bobby, and I completely agree with the need for individual change and action. Also, thanks for the link to ManyBooks ? I hadn’t come across that site before.
