The Day I Served Gatorade To Brett Favre
Working as a bartender at many casinos and golf resorts throughout the years, I have met many famous people. Bartending might seem like a below average job to some of you, but rest assured the money is phenomenal. I loved bartending!
One really fun bartending job I took was at the Windance Country Club here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. It was filled with rich jerks, cheating housewives and gossip so intense it made everyday a blast. I served giant glasses of liquor to prominent surgeons just before they went to perform an open heart surgery.
One doctor told me, “Gotta steady my nerves before I handle that scalpel!”
Brett Favre: Lord Of The Jerkoffs
The richer people are, the greedier they are. That’s a fact of life. A poor man could have a cheeseburger, but he’ll give you half of it if you’re hungry. If the guy is a millionaire, he’ll have his bodyguards throw you off a building if you ask for anything!
Brett Favre, record breaking quarterback for the Greenbay Packers, happened to come to the golf resort one day. He’s a local hero and several of my friends know him personally. He approached the bar and in a very rude tone, ordered, “Gatorade.”
Pretending to ignore him and and acting like I didn’t know who he was, I said, “Huh?”
He looked really mad after his 1st 9 holes of golf! He raised his voice a little more,”Gatorade.”
“What flavor?” I shot back in true, busy bartender fashion.
“I don’t care. . .just give me a Gatorade!” he almost screamed.
I handed him the Gatorade and he threw a dollar on the counter. He quickly turned and started walking off. In an extremely authoritative tone I said, “Hold on buddy! That dollar isn’t enough! It’s $3.50!”
He pulled out two very wet, nasty dollar bills. He flung them onto the bar, where they stuck like greasy, sweat laden noodles. He grunted like a wild boar looking for fifty-cents. He was red faced and furious ! He angrily threw a handful of change at the bar. It of course ended up on the floor.
I threw a glare of wicked viciousness through his skull and throated, “You had better watch that attitude punk! Nobody acts like that in here!”
He stormed out of the bar to go finish up his remaining game. Later that day, my boss asked me what happened. I explained that I thought he was one of the gardeners or maybe a cart boy. I never admitted that I knew who he was.
Worst of all, he didn’t tip! All those millions of dollars and he couldn’t give me a gratuity! I used to be a fan of his until that day.
My best day was when five Hawaiian Tropics models came in. They were all wearing bikini tops and tight shorts. They ordered five bottles of water from me.
I managed to keep the lovely ladies at the bar for almost an hour, and they were leaving! Their limo driver kept saying, “Hurry up girls, we are late!”
They ended up tipping me $80.00 for being so nice to them! The girls were very friendly and I had a load of fun talking to them! I was so caught up in the moment, I forgot to charge them for the water…LOL!!!!!

YAY for Bobby… who the hell that guy think he is!!
I hate it how some people think too highly of themselves and forget some basic courtesy.
I can imagine how much fun you had serving those girls!!!
*jealous*

Hi Bobo!!! I actually thought of you when I wrote this! I’m so glad you are 1st commenter
I would have made those girls wait behind you if you were my customer!
I’ve heard of Brett Favre but was not sure who he was until now. whether a person is rich or poor they can be a jerk I’ve seen both types.
Last year The Baltimore Ravens went Christmas shopping with the girls from the mentoring organization I volunteer for many of them went above and beyond what they had to do. They stayed with our girls until the shopping was done. I took numerous shots that day. In fact I wrote about it on my blog.
I have met many people who are rich, and some of them are my friends that would bend over backwards to help those in need. They do. They constantly give back to those in need and they are some of the most down to earth people I’ve ever met.
Of course some peoples personality change negatively when they become rich simply because they allow that to happen. Others had the same nasty personality before they ever reached that status. Regardless of where of how much I make I’ll still treat people the same.

Hi Opal! I agree. There are jerks from every level of income. I really don’t think all rich people are greedy…just the ones that frequented that bar! The truth is, he was probably mad because he was having a bad game of golf. I have seen 60 year old city council members throw temper tantrums and throw their golf clubs at people! LOL!!!!I know you would be the same person now or if you were a billionaire! So would I. I saw a prominent lawyer who couldn’t open a packet of ketchup for his hotdog. He became so irate it ended up splattering all over his shirt…I did laugh at him and was almost fired over it!
You are so right. The richer people are the bigger of a jerk they can be when it comes to money. I loathe my great aunt because she is such a horrible snob. All she does is talk about all her trips and expensive things but the one time that my Grandma (her sister) was in a serious jam because her car died in the middle of winter and she asked her to please lend her the money to fix it, she told my grandmother that she better learn how to take a bus because she doesn’t go around lending out money to just ‘anyone’.
That did it for me. I couldn’t stand her before but now I think she is slime.

Haha! Simply hilarious, but that’s work life for u. Bittersweet!
We do not understand either. The rich people have more than enough in this world and yet they cannot lift their hands to give to others. The poor, on the contrary, do not have that much stuff with them and yet they are willing to give to anyone who needs the stuff more than himself or herself. Some fact of life there!
But anyway, we are really glad to hear that all those ladies surrounding u and being nice with u could vindicate whatever that happened between u and that man. Sounds like one unforgettable experience for u.

I know you learnt a new word “Chio Bu” recently. Most likely is from Bobo, am I right? hehe
That picture just fitted the word perfectly
Have a good weekend ahead Bobby, you need some rest too. Take Care.

Yeah, show him who’s the boss
My girl works in the service industry too, and she acts as if she doesn’t know many of the movie stars who come to the hotel where she works
But she couldn’t put on that act when she suddenly came face to face with RHCP (Seems they were accompanying Vanessa Mae when she came and performed here in India, although I fail to see the connection between their genre of music. haha.)… She froze right there in front of them. lolz.
But one thing you gotta hate about most of these big timers. Their ego.

But I don’t understand. If he came in the bar where you were serving and you admitted that you knew who he was but chose to fake ignore him and didn’t greet him like you would any other customer I don’t see why you wouldn’t expect him to act like jerk.
You said he threw a bunch of change on the bar and on $3.5 the tip would be about what? 70c? So it sounds like you got your tip.
I think in the end you both got the treatment you both deserved. Rather than treat each other like fellow human beings, one being the customer the other being the service provider, the two of you opted for the macho stuff that guys do.
Now that is just my opinion and I of course could be mistaken. Great story though and I’m sure under normal circumstances neither one of you are a jerk.

Not sure how they develop that jerky attitude. Maybe they’re spoiled on top of being arrogant. Can’t stand people like that. I get away from them like the plague.
I’m glad fame and fortune hasn’t changed you Bobby, cause you’re rich with friends.
Please send cheerleader pictures to . . . . j/k
Well you can say you definitely caught him in a moment…one he would probably want t o forget and one in which you won’t ever. I work with th general public…so I KNOW the varied amounts of people that one runs across in the course of the day.
Some are jerks, some are sweet and then there are those that totally make it all worth it! Apparently it was the two hot babes for you!
lol
Mighty Morgan’s last blog post..A project to promote our community
Hi Dawn! I don’t think all rich folks are jerks! That job was one where the employees were used to being cursed at (horribly cursed at) every day. If I waited on someone nice…I can’t remember. After the 1st week of being nice, the employees stopped.
I have met hundreds of rich, famous people and I have NEVER asked one for an autograph. Their signature means nothing to me.
Yes Bobo!!!!! I will be writing some more fun bartending stories! I bet you look great!!!!!
Hi Emila! When you bartend for a while, you develop a 6th sense as to whether or not you can get a tip out of them. I’m not at work for fun, I’m there to pay my bills. He didn’t order a drink like most people…he barked the order at me like I was his punching bag!
Thats right Leslie!
I really don’t go for girls like those Janice. I do know they had money, I simply worked a nice tip out of them! They were banks in my eyes!
Thanks Nafa! I have many more stories to tell! He would never remember me so it wouldn’t matter!
Two of the same comments for Janice! I know…there’s something wrong and I have yet to figure out what it is. It hangs for me too. Thanks for telling me. I guess it works perfectly for everyone but you and I
That’s funny Sandman! Believe it or not, was the only nice bartender they had.
Hi Debo Hobo! The standard tip on all beverages in a golf course is $1.00 on everything. Very, very few people tip less than that. When Brett came up to the bar he was already mad and barked his initial order at me.
When you work in a place where customers are mad (all day long) it becomes impossible to be nice at all times. We had one really nice young female bartender who had a rich old guy spit on her for giving him the wrong beer. She cried and quit that day! I got in 3 fist fights with guys in there. Once you work in a place where 80% of your customers are literally cursing orders at you…it becomes you against them! I have NEVER seen anything like it in my life
Hi Rolando! I’m a poor guy that only has enough money to eat! LOL!!!! New employees in that bar freaked out the first time they saw customers snapping their fingers for service as if to call their dog! They’d say, “Is he snapping his fingers at me?”
I’d say yes…they want you to promptly fetch them a beer, and I’m not kidding. I think golf can either be really relaxing, or it can make a grown man throw a tantrum! LOL!!!!
Hi Morgan! There’s no way he acts like that all the time! Bartending in a casino is TOTALLY different that a Golf Course. Get a drunk guy with a bad game of golf and you’ve got a jerk!
Snapping fingers? Man that is so wrong. If I new martial arts you do you, I’d be breaking fingers, lol
It happened all the time Rolando! It got so bad in there, I would make some of the the customers say, “May I please purchase a beverage sir?”
If they didn’t say it, they didn’t get a drink!
I peep somewhere !!
Are you kidding….it never cross my mind that you are a guitar teacher. I thought that’s only your hobby.
Bobby, you are always joking with me now I duno whether if this is true or not….
I admire guys who can play the guitar, I find it so romantic. My eldest sis’s ex boyfriend can play it so well. He was our prince charming, unfortunately, he died in a fatal accident many years back *sob*

What an interesting job you had there, Bobby. Back when I was in college, I worked at a grocery store, which in a way had the same type of personalities that came through your bar (although no bikini babes!). Sometimes it was all I could do not to yell back at them. It’s simply amazing how people can be to total strangers, but I think that’s the key reason: they didn’t know me so I was “safer” to yell at. Even so, we’re all in this together, so being a jerk about things is no way to spend our short time here together.

Thanks Mark! This is why I prefer to be self-employed. If a boss commands me to do something, even if I’ve been working there less than 5 minutes, I will tell them politely never to “command me again”!
People who have worked for tips are always the best tippers. I do yell back if I’m yelled at though! LOL!!!!
Hi Bobby,
WOoahh~ improper attitude for a football star..I agree with u, the richer people are, the greedier they are.
You’re super lucky to be with those models..now i wanna be a bartender too…lol..it’s a cool job, no doubt..

Yes! Bartending can be fun! I wouldn’t work in a regular bar or a nightclub. Casino’s are by far the best places to bartend!
Hey Bobby, are the comments a little messed up? I tried commenting on this one twice yesterday, but neither of them have shown up.
Yes Aaron! I have been trying to figure out what the problem is for 2 weeks. I have no idea what’s causing it. It’s hanging when I enter a comment. I’ve tested my site with all the plug ins turned off. I did update all my plugins today, so hopefully it’ll be working properly!
Thanks for asking!!!!!! I really need to know!
O.k. now I know why you always have these interesting stories…you were a bartender! You actually understand people and the way they work. Maybe if I read enough of your stories I’ll figure it out too, lol. You’re awesome Bobby!

Bartending is great pay! I have done private parties that pay the bills for a long time. The only draw back is the presence of drunks that like to slur out disgusting comments. However, there are usually more enjoyable people at the bar. I like the people that laugh nervously when someone cute says hello
Sounds like Brett Favre is a jerk. I have no clue why people with so much money aren’t nicer to the people around them. A sick sense of entitlement I suppose. At least those beautiful ladies were nice to you. I bet they had a lot of fun!

Hi Erina! It is SO NICE to see you! I have missed you a lot! I was just working those ladies for a tip! I really don’t go for that type of girl although they were really pretty! I think Brett just had a bad golf day! Golfers sometimes get upset when they don’t play well. Some stay calm regardless. I like the calm ones best!
I have moved everyone from the Governor of MN, to the poor college student. Jesse Ventura, TV celebs and the rich tip very few times. Average working joe will tip 100 dollars quite often.
Back to Ventura… 3 days and NO tip whatsoever!

Ha Ha I know this is an old post, but it caught my eye- gee I wonder why.
Brett Favre is a joke, he has retired 50 or 60 times now.
I loved it when the Broncos (I lived in Denver for 22 years) kicked his can. We had just moved from Denver when it happened (that is the SuperBowl - where Denver beat the Packers) and we caught a lot of crap from locals here. I was afraid actually until we got our license plates changed. Death threats and all… and bizarre sexually natured comments about Elway or something- while my children were with me.
I see this post is linked to another fine MonneypennyPost
