Content theft is out of control in the blogosphere and I want to give these sites some attention. To learn more and pick up some great tips go read:
How To Stop Content Theft: The Best Practices
In honor of these criminals, I have started a new site that presents them in all their glory. They deserve a few links. My new site gives them that and more. I am asking you to go read it. Most of the sites are running Adsense ads, so just go to Googles Adsense page and file a complaint. The link above supplies all the info you need to help take these sites down.
My new site is…drumroll please:
Scumbag Idiot Loser Blogs.blogspot.com
The above site was deleted, as I took the advice from someone who knows more about it than I. Keep reading!
Leave comments on that site of any scrapers, spammers, sploggers and scumbags that need to be destroyed. It is my goal to list them all. If enough people fight…we can tear the throat out of these fools and watch them die! Yay!!!!!! Please help me get the ball of scum rolling…right down the drain so we can flush the toilet.
I am risking my own neck to do this but I love to fight. Lets take a pair of pliers and a blowtorch to these thieves! Lets GET MEDIEVAL on these loser morons!!!!!!!
Do not leave any comments here containing links to the evil sites, leave links on Scumbag Idiot Loser Blogs.blogspot.com!

UPDATE
Because of the advice from Lorelle, I have taken down my site. Instead, I will be compiling a list of these sites. If you would like to add a violator please e-mail me. My address is at the top of my site in contacts. I will be happy to send you a list if you want to help report these sites. Lorelle is right, by linking in any way, I will be helping, not hurting them.
It was fun for a minute!!!! Please just send me an e-mail and together we can build a list. It only takes a minute to report a site and if you have had your content stolen, please help out. I’m not going to go crazy doing this, but I will report those who steal my content. More reports will increase the probability to get something done.

This has been done before and it didn’t work. What it did was bring a lot of attention and income to splogs, and gave them validity. It also hurt the page ranking of the “good” site and blog.
it’s a nice idea, but old and doesn’t work. So before you put too much energy into it, why not put more energy into reporting and stopping rather than promoting. Just my humble been-there-watched-that advice.

Thank you!!!! I will follow your advice. I will compile a private list of these sites so if people want to help, I’ll give them the list. It felt good for a minute though
to date i have never had a run in with actual “theft”,,, but i am daily plagued by linking aggregating sites… what is up with that?????? one of them is even listed on technorati and has a ranking three…. heres their link……http://www.music-mp3-albums.info/
paisley’s last blog post..a toast
Thanks Paisley…I reported them out of pure meanness
The only rank they will have is their rank stench!!!!
Bobby! I think I have more than 20 posts content that has been stolen. Most of the thieves use wordpress self-hosted blog. How do I go about it?

I’ll have some for you, I regularly get pingbacks from sites that show a small excerpt from my post as their entire content, at least they link back but I don’t see the value of these sites anyway. Do they really get enough traffic to make it worthwhile?

Thanks for the info. I didn’t know how to deal with content thieves (or even if I could do anything about it) I just reported a splog that linked back to me in the last hour. Now I’m off to continue to kick some splog butt
I am blogger…hear me roar…

If you can, please email me a list of all the urls so I can look at them. We can go from there. Thanks Emila
I have no idea Andy. I do know that many of these sites will often have the exact same post title as the original. This make the original less valuable. My page rank is 0 because of it. I do not have any paid posts or links on this blog. I am being punished for having my content scraped.
It’s like getting mugged and then they let the mugger go free and punish the victim. Please email me any urls you may have and I’ll add them in. I want to see if it is possible to take a site down.
Many of these sites have 1000’s of posts and have been going strong for 3-5 years!
I reported one site while back for an adsense violation, the next day they were running yahoo publisher ads! I am actually more interested in uncovering who is behind these sites. It is often prominent bloggers themselves trying to make more money.
That’s madness, they can’t be earning much, it seems so pointless and pathetic really. It’s really bugging me that they get away with it on such a large scale. It seems like every single blogger out there is being used by these idiots.

Ok, a few points. First, I agree with Lorelle entirely about the nature of the site. It has been done and it really doesn’t do a great deal of good. Even the list idea that you are working on now is fraught with peril. You’ll likely only list a very small percent of spam blogs and, given the nature of spam blogs to come on and off line rapidly, your list will be a nightmare to maintain and constantly out of date.
The best way for everyone to deal with this is tend to their own yard, stop the spammers scraping them and target the advertising. Even if we shut down only a small percentage of spam bloggers, it changes the economics of the situation drastically.
That being said, the spam blog reporting procedure described is virtually useless. If you are reporting your own content being stolen to Adsense, you generally need to provide a DMCA notice. I have templates on my site and you can do a quick search in Google for Adsense DMCA and find the information you need.
It is a pain in that it requires a fax or postal mail, but it does work. I can attest to it.
I hope that this helps and please don’t hesitate to drop me a line if there is anything I can do to help!

As I am finding out, it is much more difficult to deal with these sites than I initially thought. There are crazy people out there filled with greed driven motivations. I am not going to lose any sleep over it
Thanks for the advice Jonathan and I will try it out. It’s really a shame that Google doesn’t do more. They could, if they wanted to, really do something that would benefit their own reputation as well as all of us.
Google really could care less about stuff like this. The only people they protect are their advertisers. I agree we need to take care of our own yards first and foremost. The problem is that most bloggers aren’t interested and will not care to do do anything. So…only a small percentage of these sites will be affected.
I will be reading your blog and I think you have done a great job helping to get out some good advice to folks like me who do care.
Thanks Bobby! I e-mailed the list!

I have to agree that this is an area where Google has done little other than protect its bottom line. It is the number one host, promotion source and revenue stream for spammers. I don’t think this is a coincidence.
Let me know if there is anything I can do for you!

Bobby I love this idea it is too darn funny!! I get so much spam and copied information so it will be nice to fight back a little ! :0
Good to have you back …hope your doing well!
Hi Bobby,
Besides Technorati, how do I even know if my contents have ever been lifted before?
waterlearner’s last blog post..Delay Gratification
I will make sure I do more regular searches for the offenders and try to do something about it. Every little bit counts. It is a shame your idea is not viable. I thought it great. You could maybe have found some person clever in AJAX to create an interactive site where we dropped urls into a grave and buried it. That would have been very satisfying!
A web site that I run for a client was hijacked a few weeks back - in an attempt to divert the page to spam sites. They got right in there and added code to most of the site pages! No harm done thankfully but I was so annoyed at being invaded in this way.
Give us a holler if the task is getting too time consuming and I will help where I can.
Sueblimely’s last blog post..I am an rssHugger
Hi Bobby! The content stealer said they are not content stealer and I found this disclaimer at the footer:
“Please note, all content posted on this blog remains the property of its writer/s. We did not and will not write any original content, all the content displayed has been pulled from public RSS feeds and is there to mearly spread my fellow bloggers work and provide a PageRank giving link back to the work. If you object to me using any of the above methods to further the excellent information these, and many other bloggers create, please feel free to email me with your reasoning. We are not here to steal content, this is mearly a social experiment. Thanks for your time.”
He makes it sound that it’s a social experiment and is providing a PageRank link back!

Sometimes I believe that a personal visit to the homes of these people might be a better way to handle it
hahaha…thanks Morgan
I don’t think your content is being scraped like mine is Karen. Currently, you have nothing to worry about
Google is doing all it can to protect these scam sites and is continuously punishing the victims. 90% of all blame should be dropped on Google, for it really is their fault. Now that they own feedburner, we can rest assured that nothing will be done to help us.
Thanks Sue
That’s right Emila…they want to make sure they are prepared to avoid any legal action and they will be protected fully by Google. Now they can ruin your pagerank legally
Hey buddy, a short while back I actually wrote an in depth post on copyright infringement and how to battle it. I had to use a heavy hand on some sites that were stealing my content, which led me to write the post on what exactly to do when someone violates your copyrights.
It gives the 5 steps to take when someone is stealing your work and also has a sample Copy Infringement Notice that people are free to use if ever they need to. And trust me, it works wonders.
Anyway, here’s the post…
Copyright Infringement - Is Someone Stealing Your Content?
It’s helped a handful of bloggers so far and I hope that it continues to do so. Copyright infringement sucks, but unfortunately, it’s not going away…especially since a lot of people don’t copyright rules and “fair use” rules. And some who do, just don’t care.
Shine on,
Aaron
Btw, that guy’s disclaimer does NOT hold water or protect him whatsoever. Even using content from public RSS feeds is copyright violation since he is not the owner of the feed, the original author is!
I wonder if this is the same joker I dealt with a while back. The disclaimer looks to be word-for-word from what I remember. He had claimed that it was just some college project, yada, yada, yada. So I threatened him with a lawsuit and he about crapped his pants. So if this is indeed the same guy, then he’s well aware that what he’s doing is copyright infringement and thinks he can get around it by pretending it’s a social experiment. Bullshit!
Bobby, please email me the link to his site, as well as the links to the pages he has put your stolen content. If it’s the same guy then I say we file an infringement notice under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) with Google and get him banned from the search engines!
Aaron Cook’s last blog post..Hump Day Humor - Monty Python Meets Star Wars!
Hi Aaron, unfortunately for me, I have over 100 site scraping me. I do believe that is the reason my PR was dropped to zero. I don’t have a single paid post or link on this site. I’ll check out your post. I have been taking it REALLY easy on blogging, that’s why I haven’t been by much.
I’ll email you a small sample of sites including the one with the disclaimer
Btw, mine dropped to 0 recently too. And so did Mike’s and Valentin’s and several others. I have no explanation. I don’t do paid links or posts or any of that either. But the scraping shouldn’t have anything to do with it at all. Google knows where the content originates and they’re also aware that these sites are stealing it. Nonetheless, I still want to find out why ours dropped for no apparent reason.

Bobby… I have read several posts about how to handle content thieves but I still have no solution to solve my problem… they turn off their comment, they didn’t reply my email, Google does respond my report by automatic email machine.. I trully run out of ideas to free myself from that thieves!
