Bobby Revell’s Entertainment Week

It’s been quite a while since I’ve completed a tag and I know I am so far behind, I’ll never catch up! Hey, it’s better late than never. My friend Todd from Success With Todd tagged me with a really cool one entitled My Entertainment Week. Just write a little under the three topics: Books, TV and Music.

Books: I love to read even more than I love to write! I actually read an E-book today that was very inspiring. It’s an old classic, The Art of Writing by Robert Louis Stevenson (click the link and get it free). This is a study of style, form, rhythm and the artistic qualities of being an author. A great read for anyone looking to spark their writing imagination.

lovecraft.png

As far as fiction goes, I am a huge H.P. Lovecraft fan. I love his book, “At The Mountains of Madness“. Another favorite from him is “The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath“. Lovecraft is my literary idol and I reread many of his works over and over. Click the links and read them for yourself.

weaveworld.pngI also love Clive Barker. His novel, “The Damnation Game”, is fantastic. I also liked his brilliant masterpiece, “Weaveworld“, which is more fantasy than horror. I wish he would turn it into a movie…that would be incredible. If you want to sink your teeth into a true masterpiece of fantasy, this book will not disappoint. You can download free PDF versions of Lovecraft and tons of other classics from Manybooks.net (one of my all time favorite sites). To read an entire novel from the web does take some getting used to. I prefer to read a normal book, where I can lie on the couch and relax with a blanket and pillow. Reading for three straight hours from a PC gives me a headache sometimes. It can also lessen the entire experience.

TV: Besides watching every news channel, I am addicted to the show Law and Order. I watch tons of old reruns and prefer it to CSI. It’s one of the best written TV programs ever and I think I’ve seen every episode. I particularly like the Law and Order: SVU variation. My favorite channels are The History Channel, A&E and Discovery. Overall, I really spend very little time watching TV. I spend the majority of my free time writing.

beethoven.jpgMusic: I really love mega-dramatic horror movie soundtracks cranked up to ear splitting decibel levels - in front of my wide open living room window - dressed like Beethoven…waving a symphony conductor’s baton in passionate and furious frenzy. My neighbors love me! Tonight, I’ll play my favorite, “The Exorcist” soundtrack - that should frighten the old lady next door…haha! The picture to the left (from Classical.net) is exactly how I look when conducting - I take it very seriously and so do my neighbors. If “air-conducting” ever catches on, I’ll be internationally known as the best. I’ll be Revellian: The Wicked Evil Maestro. Stand in fear as I mesmerize and take names! Hey, I already know I’m a strange cookie.

Well, maybe I stretched the truth a little in the previous paragraph. I do prefer instrumental music to music with vocals. I like instrumental progressive-metal, Jazz, classical and Indian music very much.

I look forward to reading about some of your favorite little things in life; feel free to change up if you don’t watch TV and like video games or movies more etc. I tag the following people - some of these people tagged me on meme’s I’ve yet to do, I will try to do one per week to catch up:

Mitch, Speedy, Andy, Nick, Zubli, Mike, Menopauseprincess, Paula, Christy, Square1, Anastasia, Karen, Bobo, Jamy, Trinity, Emila, Marzie, Janice, Teeni, Madhur, LFXT, DCR and Debbie Dolphin

I have a meme complex after blogging for a year. Actually, it happened around 6 months ago. I was so inundated with tags and awards that I got all stressed out and just stopped doing them. I’m finally over feeling guilty about it. I just don’t do very many of them. One blogger (DCR) pointed out that some meme’s and link chains are fun and more interesting than others. I felt that this one was interesting as it is a cool way to get to know people better. If you feel uncomfortable tagging people…don’t!

Oh, this is a fun meme! Thanks for tagging me! I will get to it in a couple of days because I actually am behind on a couple of posts. **hangs head in shame** And like you, I sometimes find these overwhelming, but they have increased the size of my blogging circle and I’ve met some wonderful people so I don’t want to write them off. Plus some of them, like this one, are different and fun. I think it is funny that you like to listen to the music from horror films - Aha - the Excorcist soundtrack is definitely freaky. Tubular Bells - yikes! :)

Hi Teeni! Yeah, meme’s aren’t really my thing but I am no longer feeling weird about doing one occasionally. I liked this one because you actually have to write something for it…haha! Anyway, feel no pressure and do it if you want

  3. Bobo on March 15th, 2008 8:23 am

Dearie! Thanks for the tag.. the books you read seem so scary!!!! I don’t read very much though.. how??

Oh man, I can’t even remember the last time I read a book all the way through. I’ll have to change that to movies :P

  5. The sorts of things which entertain me » Things By Mike on March 15th, 2008 10:04 am

[...] Bobby (aka the classiest guy in the blogosphere) tagged me with this entertainment meme. My mission is to write about the things which, well, entertain me. Bobby wrote about books, TV, and Music. I’m going to substitute movies for books, since I’m not much of a reader. I can read however, I just don’t like to unless forced to do so at gunpoint. In case you’re wondering, that doesn’t happen very often. [...]

  6. Paula on March 15th, 2008 11:21 am

Wow, great post Bobby! You always make me laugh so hard. I totally would love to “conduct” music with you one day and shock the neighbors. HAHAHAHA! Mike tagged me for this as well, so I’ll do it for the both of you. (smile)

All the way through? Haha…yeah, I know that feeling. I have started tons of books that I just couldn’t bear to finish. The great “classic” authors and poets throughout history are often dreadfully boring for me. I prefer short stories and psychedelic poetry with strange concepts and weirdness.

  8. Revellian on March 15th, 2008 1:37 pm

Isn’t it nice to be tagged twice for the same thing? I love the dark atmosphere of horror music - especially while I’m writing. Hold on Paula…I must change into my Beethoven suit and powdered wig…hehe

  9. emila yusof on March 15th, 2008 11:34 pm

Yay! You tagged me as well! Thanks Bobby! Will post it up soon! I think we have the similarity in the TV series choices. Love CSI (all 3 versions) and SVU too!

I know you love Yngwie for sure!!

    Hi Bobby,

Thanks for doing this one. I think I said in my post, that this was the first meme I’d ever done. I do agree with you though, I don’t think I could do something like this more than just occasionally … would probably get old.

It was interesting to read your answers … we’re big Law & Order / CSI fans in this house too.

Oh yea, and I am going to check out that Robert Louis Stevenson book … thanks for the link.

I hope you’re having a good weekend … catch up with you again soon.

    Todd

Who said I wouldn’t show?? :-) I guess I will have to agree about the meme game. Some are fun, especially with certain people. There are others that really have no point, and take to long. I would like to see a “MEME” wheel on each blog, and you could spin to something cool … haa haaaa!!!! Vanna White and Pat Sajack can be the avatars. If you hit the “bankrupt” on a spin, you loose all previous links, and have to re-do all of your tags.
