I was driving last week, listening to Fox News Radio – a place where you get to hear the true intent of their inexcusable agenda. They discuss things in such a way that it could never fly on the televised version. Actually, this post will show you what I heard on three separate broadcasts over the period of a week.
I can’t throw all the blame on Fox as there are many affiliates involved, but most are under the umbrella of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation. What I heard made me sick to my stomach.
- I was listening to The Schnitt Show, a popular right wing program. The announcer said several horrible things about Muslims and the people of Iraq. The phrase ended with, “The only good Muslim is a dead Muslim,” which was followed by sound effects and a climactic swoosh to provide the common radio style exclamation point. It then went to a commercial. I was appalled by the statement and was slightly misled. I had to listen for several more minutes to realize that it was a recording of someone who had previously called in to give an opinion; however, the announcer did not renounce the statement.
- On another day, I heard an interview with a Muslim. They announced that this guy represented all Muslims and this was our chance to truly understand what they are all about. The guy went on and on about how all Americans and Christians must be killed. He said that nothing can or ever will stop them from killing all of us. He said that all Muslims are part of this extremism. The ones who don’t openly admit it are really just waiting for them to take true advantage in global terror. I thought I was really hearing something true. It was riveting and extremely disturbing. The guy had a thick mid-eastern accent and sounded quite convincing. It made me wonder for a moment about my many Muslim friends. In the last minute of the program, the main announcer said, “This was not a real interview with a real Muslim! This was an actor who was simply portraying how Muslims really are – to show the world how Muslims really think and plot against Americans.” Needless to say, I was disgusted. How dare they play such garbage on public media. Muslims are not the enemy. Terrorism and corrupted governments are the real enemies.
- Finally, I heard a guy go on and on about the demise of white America. He said, “Be afraid. The extinction and oppression of white people is here and very strong. White people are being fooled into voting for people who will allow the minorities to take over. Their agenda is to destroy the last vestige of what it means to be white.” Is Fox operated by the KKK? It sure sounds like it.
This is why I will no longer watch or listen to Fox news whether it be on TV or the radio. News Corporation is the most powerful news corporation on Earth. They own American Idol and My Space just to name a few of their products. It should be illegal for a corporation dealing in news to own so many other media outlets. Even if nobody watched Fox news, they can still afford to run 24-7 and shove it down our throats. Think for yourself and do not allow yourself to be fooled by this tripe.
I am pissed off about how news is handled by the media giants. I appreciate the very few people who have the fearless attitude such as Lou Dobbs from CNN. I have been told I am Un-American for bashing our government. Make no mistake – I am proud to be American. I am not proud of our corrupt leaders and politicians.
You want to know what is truly Un-American? War is Un-American. The Iraq war is Un-American. Ignorantly accepting the 9-11 commission findings is absolutely Un-American. George W. Bush is Un-American. I keep hearing this argument that if we pull out of Iraq, we are basically announcing defeat. This is the most childish and ludicrous statement I have ever heard. Wars cannot be won – they only demonstrate pure weakness and cowardice. It is time for the world to realize that humankind can get by without war.
Wherever we are headed, one thing is for sure: I am unafraid of terrorists. I am also unafraid to question the intentions of our leaders. I just hope the media can grow the balls to question our leaders without fear. We bloggers are the new media and we are a powerful force. Our power has just begun! People from all over the world are beginning to see through the bullshit and I am here doing my part – as a very proud American. I am also proud to be a human being from the planet Earth. We are all one people.
We should all be proud of our own heritage, but never forget that we are equals. When I hear someone say America is number 1, it bothers me. It’s like saying all other countries and people are not number 1. No one nation is number 1 – we are all in this life together and should see ourselves as part of a whole, not as separate entities.

Murdoch’s media is renowned for supporting whatever political agenda is convenient at the time. When the war with Iraq unfolded, the Murdoch empire (Newscorp) was supportive of this war. Now, however, Newscorp has added funds to Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Weren’t there similar things being said (at the time) about pulling out of Vietnam? And in the end they pulled out of the war because they (possibly knew from before) that it was a war of attrition.

I completely agree with your comments about Fox news. They have always struck me as, well, to put it nicely, spoiled children throwing fits about the news.
I do not find them unbiased, and in news reporting that really bothers me. I believe strongly in freedom of the press, but I cannot support such narrow-mindedness as I have heard on Fox. Thanks for the post!

They are clearly abusing their Freedom of Press. They are only adding more woods to the fire and possibly misleading the public. Someone really should take them to the court.

Yeah, it’s funny how quickly we forget that none of us had any control over whom we were born to, which country we were born in, what race we would be, what financial status we would have, what religion we’d be raised in, what type of health we would have, etc.

Now a days, there are so many different venues for people to get their “news”, that the concept objectivity is almost in the eye of the beholder.
Rather than seeking out information, then forming an opinion based on what we’ve learned. It seems like lately, we as a society (both right and left), are much more likely to form anopinion, then go out and seek information that validates what we already tend to believe.
Given that frame of reference, I really don’t find Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, etc., to be all that “dangerous”. For the most part, they’re preaching to the already converted. People who believe that the mainstream media are “biased”, are drawn to venues such as Fox News because what they hear makes them feel more secure about the opinions that they themselves already hold.
And on the flip side, if you tend to be more of the progressive persuassion, Fox News is probably going to make you want to throw things at your TV set … watching Bill O’Reilly could easily get expensive if you’re not careful.
In the long-run though I’m not so sure it’s a bad thing to have a wide variety of opinions out there. And I definitely don’t agree with the commenter above who advocates court action, or somehow shutting down the right wing media.
The epitome of freedom of speech is the right to say things that others may not agree with.
… and the proper response to that to either do what Bobby said he’s going to do; stop watching/listening. Or even better, put forth a more compelling argument.
My two pennies,
Todd
p.s. as I become old and fuddy I tend to listen to more talk radio in my car. I have presets for both conservative and progressive stations/shows. I tend to agree with the conservatives Very Rarely … but, at the same time, I find them much more “entertaining” to listen to … as odd at that may sound

It is what it is, useless spin about current news. This by itself creates more “news” to talk about, something they say is important. It’s a media business which can be harmful for anybody who thinks that this is “real” news.

Fox News Radio?
Is that like 7 minutes to Spin their opinions versus reporting the facts?

Hi Bobby,
For me, the Daily Show and the Colbert Report are the only news sources!
The U.N. tag should be added to “fair and balanced” for UNfair and UNbalanced

While I realize that it’s important to be informed, I can’t stand Fox News (or most of the other news networks, though Fox is definitely the worst of the big ones). I found that I’ve been considerably happier since I stopped watching the news and instead gave myself the goal of *doing* one thing to make the world better than when I woke up, every single day. The only news I do get is what I see on a quick glance at Fark.com or Yahoo! Homepage News.

Thanks for reading this post Marzie! It is extremely difficult for a Muslim to live in America, especially with evil news networks saying such horrible things. All my Muslim friends are wonderful people…especially you Marzie Warzie!!!!!

One thing about troop withdrawal they are overlooking is the danger to the final remaining troops. I wonder how dangerous it will be when there are only 10 troops left. I wouldn’t want to be one of them! They should pull out all at once – like yanking off a band-aid. It was my first time listening to Fox news radio – it will be the last!!!!

Hi Todd! I’m really blowing off a little steam in this post and exercising my own right to free speech. I’ve actually always been a republican. However, I am against war and believe it to be a last resort, not a preemptive solution. I believe in super small government and low taxes. The only thing I like about Obama is that he is against war too. I do not like any of his policies. Everything in the public arena is just opinion. The idea that Osama bin Laden was responsible for 9-11 is just opinion. The idea that our own government was behind 9-11 is also just an opinion. However, after studying the available evidence, I side with 9-11 being an inside job. Overall, politics stresses me out and I probably shouldn’t have even written this article. I just write when I am inspired to and that’s what being free is all about. I will not vote in the upcoming election because I disagree totally with all the candidates.
I have faith in America and I believe we will make it through anything. I am certainly no expert – just a thinker trying to find his way. Every year that passes, my opinions change more and more

All I know is their “fair and balanced” tag line is the most blatant example of media hypocrisy in the history of Earth. I’m starting to think that comedy central has more accurate news than any of the real news networks. I particularly liked this past week’s John Stewart review of General Petraeus’s vague explanations. I couldn’t stop laughing

Hi Stefanie! Well, I guess we just have to get used to opinionated biased news. The way I see it, any blogger’s opinions are equally valid to any major network. We can get the same stories from the AP wire or Reuters and write up our own biased version to further our own agenda…hahaha:smile:
