Blogging Burnout

Just so my readers know, I am suffering from a major case of blogging burnout. I started into the wordpress theme design tutorials by Small Potato, but I didn’t listen to his advice on taking breaks. Once I started into it, I couldn’t stop. I worked on it constantly every free minute I had. After each lesson, he said to stop and take a break to avoid burnout – he was so right!

It’s so easy to get burned out from just regular blogging. When you start into more serious things like design, it makes burnout even more difficult to avoid. Yesterday, I tried to look at my blog and maybe surf around a little but couldn’t bring myself to do it. I did learn some valuable lessons though:

Wordpress Basics for Newbies

It can be difficult for beginners to learn wordpress basics. Newbies have all the information at their disposal, but get overwhelmed. I was thinking about some things I really wish I knew when I first started using wordpress. When you’re just starting, it’s not easy to know what’s important and what isn’t, so here we go.

Most people tend to use too many unnecessary plug ins and most are redundant. Beginners are simply unaware of what’s already built in. I highly recommend you actually read the wordpress codex. While some of the information maybe hard to understand, there is an astonishing amount of useful tips even a novice can use. Any question you have is answered in the codex, if you take time to read it.

Heaven or Hell – Which is Better?

Which do do think is a better place to go, heaven or hell? Let’s contemplate some unusual scenarios to find out. An old friend of mine, Damien Van Damne, died on the surgery room table after falling 10 stories onto a pile of razor sharp scrap metal; they ended up bringing him back to life.

After a few weeks of recovery, I visited him at the Miskatonic University Medical Center. This is what he told me (keep in mind he has no legs, no arms, a disfigured face, one lung was removed and his blood is filtered through dialysis because his kidneys are ruptured…somehow, he is upbeat and happy to be alive):

The Negative Side of Positive Thinking

Has it ever crossed your mind that positive thinking has a negative side or that negative thinking has a positive side? Some people get so caught up in self help and being success oriented that they over do it. Sometimes, I just want to yell something negative at someone or say something incredibly pessimistic. I have a dark and sometimes twisted sense of humor, and too much positivity gets under my skin.

Search Engine Friendly Article Titles

Many people believe a catchy blog post title is the way to go, some think a search engine friendly article title is – which is best? I think it’s a combination of both. (note that I repeated the blog title in the previous sentence – you should do the same and use it naturally in a sentence at the start of the post). For sake of this discussion, let’s hypothesize there are two types of bloggers: Those who know how search engines work and those who do not.

Street Respect – The Gangster Mentality

I’m not going to get into the history of gangster mentality or street respect, but will offer my personal experience instead. One of the most corroded aspects of modern society is this attitude of street respect. It’s all over the United States, and if it’s not near your house, you are one of the lucky ones. It’s common for a street thug to murder someone just for calling him a name or “disrespecting” him. It is the ultimate act of cowardice and stupidity, and is so widespread, your kids could easily fall prey to or even become one of them.

Wordpress Backups – Importing Files Larger Than 2MB

When doing wordpress backups, there are different ways to do it. You can do database backups in your hosting account c-panel or PhpMyAdmin, but that might not be enough to guarantee your safety. In the wordpress control panel, under manage, you can export an xml file which contains your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags. Now, when you try to import that file because of whatever reason, importing files larger than 2MB is not possible. Most exported back ups are larger than 2MB, so how can you do it?

Blue Host Nightmare: How I Fixed My Blog

Five days ago, I began having extremely bad problems with my hosting account, which was box 350 (server). I feel sorry for the poor souls on that box. As described in my previous post, I started getting cpu quota exceeded errors 20-30 times per day. I called my host over 70 times this week, and that song they play when you’re on hold will cause me to explode in a frenetic rage of blackened anger – I heard it for hours.
