Hi Bobby,

Based on your recommendation of BlueHost and Simple Scripts, as I told you preciously, I put my new WordPress project on this host.

For both you and your readers......They are GREAT. The longest I have ever had to wait to get a live person, when I had problems, was 5 minutes. Everyone there is helpful.

And, what can I say about Simple Scripts..... loading on the new WP versions has been so easy and totally hassle free.

Bobby, come on by SlogBite and take a look.... and maybe join in?

Thank you, Bobby! :)

The plugin was so easy... nice to see the computer do what it was design for (automate tedious time consuming tasks), for a change! :)

What would the blogging free world do without you?

That's the one Debbie! I just have it emailed to my private email account, which is not known by the public. It sends me a backup every day:)

Hi Bobby!

Do you use the WordPress database backup plug in @

http://www.ilfilosofo.com/blog/wp-db-backup/

Do you backup to the server, your computer, and eMail?

Is there a plug in to restore the database?

Hi Dave, I completely understand your angst; however, I will point out that most hosts in the price range of $10.00 or less per year really cannot afford to do a lot.

You must back up your own site every day. I use the WP database backup plug in, and it automatically backs up my site every day. You must prepare your own site to withstand any and all problems like this. That's why they call it self hosting - you are basically your own web master.

Also, never put in a support ticket for help - call them instead. Call and call again until you find someone to help you. Ask to speak to someone higher up and insist on it.

The biggest mistake 1st time wordpress users make is using Fantastico to install their site. Either use simple scripts or install it from scratch, it's not that difficult. I wish you luck!

Hi, just landed on this post while googling for 'files wiped on bluehost' phrase. We got them really wiped off yestarday. We log in and ... HUH .. there's nothing. Nothing at ALL!

And that's what bluehost answered:

Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting us!
Sorry but there are no log files on our end. We also don't have any backups of your site.
BlueHost does not offer redundant or mirrored backups. BlueHost will run courtesy backups at our discretion. Any backups that BlueHost runs are in addition to our Terms of Service and are not guaranteed. Customers are encouraged to run periodic backups through the provided cPanel. BlueHost reccomends that you store such backups off site on your local sysetm.
Important: Bluehost.com assumes no responsibility for failed backups, lost data, or data integrity. Bluehost.com is unable to provide copies or create automatic backups for sites above 4 gigabytes in size.(The reason why we don't have any backups for you) You may create your own copies using SSH/Shell Access.
Thank you for using Bluehost. When you have a new question or issue, please open a new support ticket.

Don P

I don't know what they did, we did nothing for sure. And they just DO NOT TAKE ANY KIND OF RESPONSIBILITY. They just something like - it's all your fault asshole, fu#@ off.

That's not a right thing to do. I seek for a bloody revenge. Anybody having the same issue, please contact me on: jayarjo@gmail.com

Wow Metalheader, sounds like a problem.

SSH is secure shell access, which is a secured connection to the linux shell of your server, much like looking at the DOS shell in windows, but I wouldn't worry about it.

Untar means unzip, but in Linux.

I would call Bluehost, and ask them to restore your last back up for you. Sometimes they will try to avoid helping, so INSIST until they fix it for you.

Since your blog is so new, you can start from scratch since you only have 3 posts, and blue host can do all that for you.

With Fantastico, you will have problems every time you upgrade to a new version even if they can restore your site!

I would strongly suggest you start fresh and ask BH to delete your blog and have them reinstall a fresh version using Simple Scripts instead of Fantastico. Then install the Wordpress Automatic Upgrade plug in immediately after. Let me know how it goes

Hey Bobby,
I really need some help from your experience :(. My new blog, which I just updated to v2.6.5 on fantastico, on bluehost.........doesnt work! :O Like I updated it and I got this message:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /home/bulleti1/public_html/wp-includes/query.php on line 1411
I have no idea what that means. I looked at the notice I got after updating (which they usually showed after every other update)...

If you don't have SSH access, ask support to help you:
- delete all the files listed in /home/bulleti1/public_html/fantastico_fileslist.txt
- delete /home/bulleti1/public_html/fantastico_fileslist.txt
- Untar /home/bulleti1/fantastico_backups/.backup.1228102873.tgz
- Empty the database bulleti1_wrdp1
- Import the file /home/bulleti1/fantastico_backups//backup.sql into the database bulleti1_wrdp1
- Move /home/bulleti1/fantastico_backups/ to /home/bulleti1/public_html

it says I will need to restore the stuff but I have no idea because:
1. What is SHH access.
2. What does untar mean?
3. I have little idea of what is really going on :(.

If you can save my butt, I'd appreciate it and you will have a friend in me!
