What Happened To Me?
I know there are a few people out there who are wondering what happened to me. I cannot go into details, but I will share a little. An extremely close family member may have cancer and I’m awaiting the results of medical tests. We will know something next week. My father died from it and I really don’t want to go through it again. Let’s leave it at that for now.
I want to say happy birthday to my great friend Marzie, who has been there for me since the day I met her. Happy birthday Marzie! I am really terrible when it comes to birthdays, and I wish I were more competent in that area. It’s easy for me to remember Marzie’s birthday because it is on the official hurricane Katrina anniversary, August 29th - how cool is that? I haven’t visited any blogs in a while - I am just trying to get through each day.
I am preparing for hurricane Gustav, which is predicted to hit here. I’m boarding up all the windows and expecting the worst - you cannot prepare enough for these situations. The residents here are freaking out because we have not fully recovered from hurricane Katrina. I never got to see any of the news coverage of Katrina because I had no electricity after the storm.
I noticed that most of the coverage was about New Orleans even though the worst part of the storm did not hit there. New Orleans had a levee problem, not a hurricane problem. The 175 mph winds hit the Mississippi gulf coast, and took the most severe damage from that storm.
After almost being killed by Katrina, I am weary of hurricanes. I live six miles from the beach and am clear of the water surge. If Gustav hits where predicted, I will be on the bad side of the storm which is the northwest quadrant where the most intense winds and tornadoes will be. I live in the beach side community of Long Beach, Mississippi. We are all afraid of what might happen and pray it doesn’t come here.
Right now, this area along with New Orleans cannot afford a bad storm right now. We are nowhere close to recovery from Katrina. I do have a good video camera now - if the storm hits here, I will post some exciting footage afterwards.
I have not quit blogging, I’m just taking a break. I’ll be visiting my fellow bloggers soon and you all mean the world to me. I’ll be back soon!

crossing my fingers for you guys… take care of yourself and your family member… you know we will be here when you can get back…..
I hope the results will be negative for your family member.
And, for heaven’s sake, don’t be the guy standing in front of the hurricane filming the thing. The winds might not get you but flying debris can be deadly. Seek shelter!
And, by results, I of course meant the test results!!!
Hi Bobby! Good to see you back man, I was wondering what happened because you didn’t post in a while. Sorry about your family member, tough times are hitting when at least expected. I hope it will be better my friend and that the storm will go away without too much troubles.
Oh, sorry to hear about your relative, Bobby. I will be keeping you and your whole family in my thoughts and prayers. Please stay safe during this hurricane season. Hugs to you!
Hey Bobby,
Just wanted to say that I hope all is well and that the storm averts you. Being in Florida, I have a good feel for what you’re going through now.
These types of storm are not nice, and hopefully, your area will not see any damage. With you always, my friend.
Shine on,
Aaron
Hi Bobby. Both my parents are cancer patients. Currently considered cancer free. My wife lost both parents and a sister to the horrible disease. I know the pain and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and my hopes for a negative test result.
My thought and prayers with you personally with the upcoming storm as well. I realize we don’t know each other but I wanted to extend an open invitation for you to drop me a note or email anytime you like.
Dave
Hola Bobby, I’m back from my birthday celebration! Thanks so much for the birthday wish, and for remembering me with a very cute birthday card! Love and hugs for u Bobby!
Oh I’m sorry to hear abt ur family member, I do hope you’ll get some good news and not otherwise. Prepare well for the hurricane okay, I can imagine u being worried after what u went through with Katrina. Take care Bobby, stay safe and keep in touch with us okay? Take ur time, we’ll still be here for u when u’re good and ready to come back to the blogworld! *BUG HUGS* :):):)
Hi Bobby,
I hope this family member of yours would win the fight against this deadly disese. No matter what, stay strong in spirit.
And … Happy Birthday to Marz!
Another hurricane coming? How much damage is expected?
Hi Bobby,
I’m sorry to hear about your relative … but glad to hear that you’re still around.
To the extent that I pray, rest assured that you’re in them … that hurricane looks like it’s going to be a very unfun time for a whole lot of people.
Hope you pull through it with minimal loses … look forward to hearing from you again soon.
Todd
Hi Bobby, hope you’re doing ok. I saw on CNN that many people are being evacuated from New Orleans WEst bank, so this is pretty big. It could even be worse than Katrina. Be well and we hope tho hear from you soon
Well, I have missed your posts. I am so sorry to hear about the possibility of a family terminal illness, that’s hard.
I’m also so sorry about the Gustav hurricane bearing down on your area. I’m ashamed to say I did not know just how much of MS took such a hard hit last time, Katrina’s main focus was NO, I’m hoping for you and all other residents that things (help, aid, food, rescue, etc…) will be ready to take this on. The Mayor of Biloxi looked so sad on TV last night, it broke my heart, rebuilds are nowhere near completion (2011) such a major bummer, so stressful on the psyche and twice?? I could go on but I won’t I will wish you good luck and look forward to your next post, whenever that is : ) Thanks, Zen Lill
Oh no Bobby I hope you are doing okay today and that Gustav gets downgraded. I worked with a lady who made it through Andrew and lost everything. It took them 1o years to recover their lives in Wisconsin and it was not the same. I was wondering how you are and sorry to hear about the cancer. Cancer killed my Uncle and Aunt at very young ages, and their mother my grandmother as well. I have already had small scale procedures done to eliminate precancer cells from my body. I am a big baby and terrified of the c- word. Prayers- blog soon.
@Paisley: Thanks so much. This stuff really ruins my desire to write and I hope it works out.
@Dan: Thanks. I have faith that everything will be fine. I will be sleeping outside during the storm as I love debris pelting me…lol.
@J.C.: Thanks. I have barely even looked at my computer. The break has helped me a lot!
@Teeni: Thanks Teeni. Hugs to you too!
@Aaron: Thanks buddy. I forgot that you’re from Florida - you know all about these storms. This one will be ok. I just hate when the power goes out!
@Dave: Thanks for your support. The one good thing is the doctor said if it is cancer, it is relatively new. I think this storm wont be too bad…I hope!
@Marzie: Thanks Marzie! I’m glad you liked your card. The storm is almost here and the lights are flickering. All I know is people around here are freaked out over a hurricane!
@Karen: Thanks Karen! It’s nice to hear from you. I don’t think I’ll get a lot of damage. It will be a close call though.
@Todd: Thanks a lot! This will be nothing like Katrina. I’ve been through so many hurricanes I can’t remember all their names. I’ll be blogging soon.
@Daisy: Thanks! Yeah…Louisiana will get the worst of it. I hope they don’t get too much damage.
@Zen: Thanks! I’d say that 20% of the Katrina recovery is done. The rest will take 20 more years or more. The worst of the storm looks like it will miss us this time.
@Michelle: Thanks Michelle! I could use some good prayers. I am hoping my family situation is pre-cancer cells. The doctor said it’s a strong possibility. I bet you get some serious snow blizzards up there. I actually prefer cold weather. I may move away from here to a colder state because these storms are becoming so frequent. My power went off for 5 minutes around an hour ago and it’s not even here yet! I’ll be by after the hurricane.
@Everyone: I miss all of you and will be back very soon
Bobby, thanks for responding, at least we know u’re okay! Love and hugs for u Bobby! Hope all is going okay with ur family member too!
