I was first enthralled with it because it allows me to do mini posts from my phone. I found that it is also a great way of keeping up with bloggers I know. My contact list is way to large to have feed updates on everyone. My mailbox would explode.

Technorati is a mad house. Most blogs are not checked because they do not send out pings … and viral linking? Links from most of the “members” are page rank 0. You get no real advantage or gain.

Page rank is only accomplished by getting links from higher page rank blogs. If you were to get just one link from a page rank 10, it would be much more powerful than 10,000 from page rank 1. Moral of the story? Rank is only important if you want lots of hits from keywords. Comments and blog popularity come from content and comments the author makes on OTHER blogs. I had Technorati fever once myself. Now, I don’t really care.

I agree with most of your top picks for social networking. And I wholeheartedly agree with you about Technorati. I've found few who feel the same way though (or at least they won't admit it). I never got the whole Technorati thing. I'm glad I didn't waste much time there (...and my blogs still get tons of traffic).

@Potato Chef: You should at least list your blog on Technorati, but not spend much time worrying over it. If the right person stumbles your article, it can bring a ton of traffic that day, but getting stumbles from people is a matter of luck. Enjoy my horror story!

@Svasti: I use SU more than any other but not constantly. If you become a fan of other members and review their profile in addition, you will gain fans yourself. Having friends is less important than fans - it can be a little tricky toget the most out of it. So you're anonymous? Me too! I'm actually a 9 year old boy who stole this guy Bobby's identity...lol!!!

I'm right there with ya Bobby - quickly realising that FB, SU and Tw are the shining light.

To make SU work for you, you need to be regularly reviewing - that's the only trick. But I've noticed people on there tend to be a little less 'friendly' in terms of, they won't just add friends for the hell of it. They want to somehow 'know' you first. Not everyone, but enough of them!

FB is my long standing friend.

My only issue is that I blog anonymously and there's people in my social networking space (FB & Tw) that I really don't want knowing about my blog - simply because its personal. So I don't take full advantage of the triple threat.

For future ones I might tho!

Great post. I was wondering about Technorati. Guess I can stop wasting my time.

I am trying out twitter. For some reason I'm just not interested in Facebook.

I use stumbleupon. It does bring me some traffic. But never the tidal wave of traffic that people talk about. It makes me wonder if maybe that tidal wave occurs in a kiddie pool??

I'm off to read "The Waffle House Massacre"

Even I have been addicted to Twitter for so long. When i first came across it, i didn't beleive it will become so popular. Facebook is cool because of its endless applications.

Hi Diane! It sure is easy to get caught up in Technorati though - I know I did! I don't blame you, I'd be playing with cute little Milo too

I agree with everything you say about Technorati. It's a nightmare - either not working properly or when it is, it uses its crazy 'rules' to almost discourage people from trying to get a higher authority. The 3 month rule has hit me hard after I took part in the 'Big Bang' link train - now even when I get new links, my authority just drops and drops. Have stopped checking it, it's so disheartening!
As long as I have loyal readers who like what I write and take time to comment on my blog, I'm happy.
As for Twitter - I would be very dull at the moment..
'playing with puppy... Still playing with puppy... Guess what I'm doing? - playing with puppy....'
