Among friends and fans of the American Psycho novel along with being hardcore Bale fans–we loved the film American Psycho–one of the first true post modern transgressional films. When we heard Bale was playing Batman, we thought he sold out, but the movie wasn’t campy like the original Batman movies. To me, American Psycho will always be his greatest role–and The Machinist his 2nd. His new films are more big budget, but I sill like them.

I can’t hold it against him and hopefully he learned something valuable. He probably takes acting too seriously. Imagine the scolding Bach would’ve dished out had someone disturbed him after eighteen grueling hours of composing his greatest symphony. Still, it’s no excuse and he was an asshole–at least on that particular day

Pulp Fiction and Fight Club are also two of my favorite films.

Bale comes off as an asshole, but I still think he’s a great actor and if his movies look good, this little tirade won’t stop me from watching them. He doesn’t seem like someone I’d want to know personally though (those kind of tantrums rub me the wrong way).

It won’t stop me from watching his movies, after all, he didn’t drop all those F-bombs on ME, right? LOL!

@Melinda: Same here Melinda…I rarely hold contempt for people no matter what they’ve done–and this is just one bad day in a man’s life. Too bad society only remembers the bad. Look at George Bush. Sure he was a terrible president, but people blame him for every problem known. It’s a societal “scapegoat illusion” to point fingers–all the while it is usually their own fault. All great artists are a bit enigmatic aren’t they

I really like Bale too–and American Psycho is a movie I really appreciated (it’s close to but not one of my absolute favorites). I did think it was brilliant and that he was brilliant in it.

I will still go see Bale’s movies–I guess I have fucked up so much in my own life that I tend to not be too judgmental of others, particularly when I don’t know the exact context. What’s going on in his personal life? What other factors might have led to the explosion?

I know that *everyone* right now is so stressed–it seems like the entire world is on edge. This was an unfortunate event, to be sure–but anyone can make mistakes–and to blow someone off because they lose their temper (even badly) is not something I am comfortable doing.
