Sadness – Severing Toxic Friendships

I’ve suffered from severe depression my entire life and experienced much sadness. Severing toxic friendships has been a necessity for me, but it has also nearly destroyed me. It is my hope that tis article will help someone out there, even if it’s only one person.

When I grew up, I never fit in to the normal cliques, I was extremely rebellious and my friends were too. All of my friends used drugs, I sincerely mean every single one of them. I can’t name a single person I know who doesn’t use drugs or have a severe drinking problem, except for my immediate family.

I’m not going get into detail – not because I don’t want to, but because I can’t. Actually, I’m not allowed to right now. Basically, my friends started going to prison. One of my best friends from highschool, Brian, lost his mind. He tried to kill his own mother with a butcher knife. His father beat him half to death with a baseball bat and saved her life. He was committed to a mental ward and is now a vegetable who lives on government disability.

Guerrilla Marijuana Farming – My Field Busted!

I’ve been through some sticky situations in my life and have made some serious errors in judgment. I was around 22 years old and partying like a fool when a friend and I decided to grow marijuana. My friend’s name is Roy, but I will not reveal his last name as he probably wants no association with this article. All I can say is we were like dumb and dumber, though we had a lot of fun – what I can remember of it.

Our first attempt to grow pot went great. We read all the best books, which we ordered from the pinnacle of intelligence, High Times Magazine. I became a guerrilla farming expert in about a month. I could identify a magnesium deficiency at a glance and was an expert on parasites. I even mixed up my own natural bug repellent to spray on the plants so our product contained no insecticides. From that experience, I gained the knowledge to grow any plant, from vegetable to trees. I have a strong background in chemistry, so that knowledge came in handy for testing soil and so forth.

Is Kissing Safe?

We’ve all experienced the dating milestone of first kiss (known as first base in some circles), which is something most people think of as completely safe. In today’s world of diseases like herpes, is kissing safe? This is a subject most people know nothing about, nor care to.

We all know that diseases like AIDS, gonorrhea, syphilis and others are spread through having unprotected sex. What about an unprotected kiss? I know many men and women who date dozens of people at a time and kiss people on the first date all the time without any worries. Most of us don’t want to request a complete disease screening before we date every person we meet – it would be rude, or would it?

is kissing safe

is kissing safe

Let’s consider:

I’m on a date, and a girl asks, “Can I kiss you?” (who asks nowadays?)

I reply, “Hold on a second woman…I’m not just a piece of meat. Do you have an updated certification stating you’re free of STD’s (sexually transmitted diseases) with you? Is it current?”

Her face turns red, she becomes disgusted and says, “Take me home loser. You just killed any romance that could ever exist between us. You suck.”

I go home alone and lose her forever…ouch.

The Kiss That Keeps On Giving

Yes, it seems it would take all spontaneity out of the equation and ruin the natural vibe of attraction. The reason I’m writing this is because I know someone who got that one nightmare kiss, which has changed his life for the worse…forever. He kissed a pretty woman he had just met. She had no signs of anything out of the ordinary. She had good hygiene and seemed completely normal. He did not have sex with her, all he did was kiss her.

Soon after, he got huge sores on his lips and a painful, splotchy red rash all over his body. He went to the doctor and was diagnosed with Orofacial Herpes (herpes simplex 1) and Herpes Gladiatorum (a variation of herpes simplex-1 known as wrestlers herpes or mat herpes, which is common among wrestlers).  He had a difficult time getting in touch with the woman, but finally did. She was shocked, saying she had never had any breakouts in her entire life and that he must have been infected by someone else. She was actually concerned and caring enough to get tested. It turns out she does have the virus, and is unknowingly spreading it around. Some people never get an actual outbreak, but can still be a carrier and spread it.

What if Barack Obama or John McCain have herpes simplex? That would scare the hell out of parents who let them kiss their babies (and they’ve kissed a lot of them. I’d be more worried about Bill Clinton)! What a way to start life, already having the virus. Don’t let every stranger kiss your baby. It’s also quite common for a parent to infect a baby and never even know it.

How scary is that? There is no cure for herpes, and once you get it, you have it forever. While there are antiviral drugs that can suppress it, it doesn’t go away. It is up to each and every one of us to get tested and to not assume we don’t have it. This case is not a freak incident, it happens all the time all over the world. Did you know that 1 in 5 people have genital herpes? In many countries the ratio is much higher. There are very high odds that any of us could get it.

Important Facts About Herpes

Most of us have heard about herpes simplex-1 (also known as cold sores, which appear on the lips). Many people have this virus, but don’t really know anything about it. We all know what genital herpes is, but we don’t associate genital herpes with oral herpes. Here are some frightening facts everyone should know:

  • You can spread genital herpes when you don’t have any symptoms.
Fact. Genital herpes can be spread to a sex partner even when you have no symptoms. This is how most new cases of genital herpes are spread.
  • A person can have genital herpes and not even know it.
Fact. The genital herpes virus can be active in a person’s body even though they have no symptoms. That’s why out of the 50 million Americans who have genital herpes, 90% don’t even realize they are infected with the virus and may unknowingly infect others.
  • You can spread genital herpes to other parts of your body.
Fact. If you touch a genital herpes sore and then touch another part of your body, you can potentially spread the virus. Avoid contact with sores, and if you touch a sore, wash your hands with soap immediately.
  • Cold sores are just a lip infection and are not associated with herpes.
Myth. Cold sores are generally caused by herpes simplex virus type 1. This virus can also cause an initial outbreak of genital herpes if you have oral sex with someone who has a cold sore.
  • You can’t get genital herpes from oral sex.
Myth. Most type 1 genital herpes is caused by unprotected oral sex. The type 1 herpes virus can be spread through oral sex—what was a cold sore on your partner may develop as genital herpes on you. It is important to use barrier protection such as latex condoms during oral sex. (Please see your doctor for alternative barrier methods if you’re allergic to latex.)
  • If you have been with your partner for several years and just found out that you have genital herpes, your partner must be cheating on you.
Myth. The fact that your partner has been diagnosed with genital herpes does not necessarily mean he or she has been unfaithful to you. Genital herpes outbreaks can occur with very mild symptoms that go unnoticed. You or your partner may have contracted the disease from a sexual partner a long time ago or your partner may have genital herpes without knowing it. You may want to consider having an open, honest conversation with your partner about your diagnosis without making any assumptions
  • The only people who get genital herpes are those who have had many sexual partners.
Myth. Genital herpes is very common. As many as 1 in 5 American adults have genital herpes. Because of this, you can get genital herpes even if you’ve had only one or two sexual partners. However, your risk of getting a sexually transmitted disease like herpes increases with the number of sexual partners you’ve had in your life.

Facts reprinted with permission from: Myths and Facts About Genital Herpes.

After seeing what happened to someone I actually know, it really got to me. He looked so horrible and had a severe outbreak. It’s a great idea for everyone to get tested (go to your local health department for the test, it’s much less expensive than your family doctor). Don’t just assume that because some person is attractive and looks normal, that they don’t have it. If someone really cares about you and you care about them, it shouldn’t be taboo to both get tested. It’s a really good idea. Here’s to your health!

The Hypocrisy of Alcohol Versus Drugs

I don’t know all the drug and alcohol laws in every country, but here in America, hypocrisy is the golden rule. The way society and law enforcement perceives drugs is an outrage. I find it disgusting how liquor guzzling people look down on those who use drugs. This may sound like a bizarre statement to many – please read on.

Does Occasional Use Make You An Addict?

If a person drinks beer occasionally or maybe has a glass of wine with meals, they are considered normal. If a person smokes pot or snorts an occasional line of cocaine, they are widely viewed as a scumbag drug addict. By that same rationale, if marijuana were legal, it would be considered normal to smoke it and would lose the drug addict label. I find it amazing that one of the most dangerous drugs known, alcohol, is legal. Not only is it legal, it is socially acceptable. It is considered a reward for a hard day work or for a celebration of any kind. It is advertised everywhere and incessantly tantalizes young people. Don’t you love the funny beer commercials during the superbowl? It’s socially acceptable to be a legal drug abuser.

Imagine these ladies having crack pipes instead – how would it change your perception?

Alcohol is made into fancy, colorful and delicious mixed drinks. Influential actors and musicians are famous for being drinkers and drug users – they are admired for it. I would argue that musicians like The Beatles, Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix would have not been as good without using drugs. I’m not saying you should use drugs to improve your artistic abilities, but certainly affected the minds of these people. I have made millions of drinks for millions of discerning alcohol drinkers, it’s like bartending in a crack house. In Burma and Thailand, methamphetamine is known as yaba. It is offered in strawberry, banana and other assorted flavors – how horrifying is that? To make a dangerous drug taste like candy so it appeals to children certainly is a terrible thought. Alcohol based mixed drinks are the same thing! The difference is, one is legal, the other is not.

You maybe thinking that methamphetamine is by far worse than alcohol. I hate to tell you, it is not. Alcohol kills more people than all drugs combined. Alcohol is physically addictive; methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, hallucinogenic mushrooms, peyote and LSD are not. A highly addicted alcoholic can die from the withdrawal, much like a person addicted to xanax or heroin can.

95% of all drug related deaths worldwide are caused by alcohol and tobacco

To see a judge sentence a 19 year old to prison for 8 years on a first offense drug charge because they had one 10mg valium is an absolute injustice – especially if that judge goes home and drinks a liter of scotch. I saw that happen yesterday and it really got under my skin ( I am only hypothesizing about the judge drinking). Nearly all young people will try drugs or get drunk at some point. Most will outgrow their use, but many will end up destroying their lives. I have what I consider the most accurate comparison chart of respective dangerous drugs including alcohol here: drug comparisons.

Should Drugs Be Decriminalized?

I believe that drugs should be completely decriminalized in favor of treatment. It’s ridiculous to send someone to prison because they are caught with drugs. Prison will only worsen things and ruin that person’s life; however, a person selling large quantities of illicit substances, does deserve prison.

So I ask you, should alcohol be illegal? Should the laws be changed in favor of treatment for people? One of the oldest arguments is that if alcohol is legal, then marijuana should be legal too; it is in some states and countries. In my opinion, marijuana should be legal. If not, then make alcohol illegal.

nicole richie cocaine

nicole richie cocaine

Nicole Richie licking cocaine off a plate. How appealing is that?

What is a more difficult drug addiction to conquer: cocaine or alcohol? I would say that alcohol is much more difficult for most people. What is another completely legal drug that is one of the most difficult to quit of all? Tobacco. To quit smoking cigarettes is probably as difficult as heroin or alcohol, maybe even more!

The point is, we all live in an extremely biased world filled with hypocrisy. I believe that all substances that alter the mind are bad for you. They destroy lives, cause heart attacks, cancer, cirrhosis of the liver, brain damage and so forth. I will never personally judge someone for using drugs. I will however help them if they want it. What bothers me to no end is someone who drinks alcohol saying something negative about a drug user. If you drink alcohol, even in scarce moderation, you too are a drug user and are no better than a crack head…period. If the previous sentence offends you and you drink, you might be a hypocrite! We are all equal and should be treated as such.

My Six Word Blogging Memoir & Shamanic Journey

I was tagged by Mitchell Allen on his post Six Simple Sounds Summarize Self Story and Anastasia on her article 6 Word Memoir for this six word vignette to fully and accurately describe the highly distilled, purified and laboratory filtered essence of my blog. I wanted to peel back the endless layers – an exfoliation of galvanized life crust – disrobing all meaning to uncover the naked truth. I want to strip bare my blog and unsheath what lies beneath.

To get the truth, I traveled west to meet up with my half Mayan shaman, the enigmatic and powerful warlock master, Eldeguado Giovianni Menguadatucci. He has been the Revell family soothsayer for over 942 years. I met him in Sedona’s Painted desert. The ominous storm clouds gathered above as always – known as Eldeguado’s Cumulonimbus. He lives in the yellow tent-house pictured below. Unfortunately, his mule Poncho, passed away last year and he travels barefoot everywhere he goes.

eldeguado's cumulonimbus

eldeguado's cumulonimbus

I traveled there with my guide, Quentin Montana, who has been with me on many shamanic journeys. We crawled in a beautiful tepee, which sported an atmospheric Aztec motif. We sat inside, sipping the highly bitter witches brew of Datura, which contains narcotic alkaloids and is known in Sanskrit as dhattūrāḥ or thorn apple. It has long been used as an instrument for obtaining prophetic dreams or messages in various tribes. Another powerful ingredient was peyote, a spineless, dome-shaped cactus (Lophophora williamsii) native to Mexico and the southwest United States, having buttonlike tubercles that are chewed fresh or dry as a narcotic drug by certain Native American peoples. Also called mescal.

Eldeguado read my blog in a shamanic vision and channeled the ancient man-god Quetzalcoatl (A god of the Toltecs and Aztecs, one of the manifestations of the sun god Tezcatlipoca and represented as a plumed serpent), who appeared before me in all his kaleidoscopic glory. I melted in a river of liquid dreamscapes, tasted lemon sun rays and traversed the astral plane.

Quetzalcoatl in human form, using the symbols of Ehecatl, from the Codex Borgia

Quetzalcoatl in human form, using the symbols of Ehecatl, from the Codex Borgia

Eldeguado and I hummed the musical pitch of E flat in perfect unison. Quetzalcoatl, joined in with a spectacular operatic low A natural – together forming a thunderous tritone. The dissonance of this specific tritone (often used as the main interval of dissonance in musical harmony) further intensifies the prophetic nature of the visions. We faced at the correct mathematical angles to form a psychic epiphany, opening the gates to the netherworlds. The powerful chord resonated through the marrow of my bones, stimulating my third eye (pineal gland), allowing me to retrieve my six word memoir.

It was an incredible experience, though I have had an excruciatingly swollen medulla oblongata ever since. This would have made genius author Carlos Castaneda and his metaphoric character Don Juan proud. So…here’s my prophetic memoir, as told by Quetzalcoatl:

Psychic Voodoo Master’s Love Quest Spectacle

*Ahhh…I feel better now.
*I do not advocate drug use, this post is entirely fiction
*The spectacular desert cloud picture is Skyorclowns by Shaze2
*The beautiful blue picture with meditating man is This desert is not hot by Perfectclick
*I tag the following people to write their own six word memoir:

Paisley, Setu, Moyrn, Floog, Karen, Marzie, Haney, Miss MoneyPenny, and of course Nick Phillips

You don’t have to include a mesmerizing story, but it would be fun if you did!

The Reality of Casino Bartending- Sex, Drugs and Videotape

While I could get many types of jobs, some more respectable than others, few can equate the starting pay of casino bartending. I have many years of experience in it and need to make enough money to pay for my 3rd round of college. Believe it or not, I’ve had over one-hundred different types of jobs in my life. I am truly a jack of all trades.

I am taking a brutally honest look at working as a casino bartender and I don’t even care if what I write here gets me fired; I can simply go work at another casino, there are plenty here. Besides, these people don’t read blogs anyway. If someone is good at it, they can easily make $50,000.00 per year; that’s less than half of what could be made in Las Vegas but is still a hefty starting pay.

Drugs, cutthroat politics and prostitution are the name of the game. It’s generally a terrible job for a young person with a drug habit. However, someone who is above these problems can do very well. Within three days of working, I already knew 23 drug dealers who openly sold drugs – while on duty – to customers, game dealers, casino management and of course bartenders and cocktail waitresses.

Many cocktail waitresses and bartenders I’ve personally worked with have nasty drug habits (including myself, but I’ve since quit drugs). While working during a busy shift, I overheard two girls complaining about getting a much needed break so they could get a fix. To fit in, a bartender’s relationship to the waitresses must be open and honest.

I am experienced enough to know how to deal with the situation. Though I no longer use drugs, drink or smoke – I must appear to be “cool” with those who do. They must be comfortable with me as 20% of their personal tips come to me. In turn, between 15-20% of my tips go to the barback (the guy who keeps my liquor rack full, washes my glasses and helps me keep the bar clean). A good barback can make a lot of money but it is an extreme, physically demanding job.

The Story of Two Cocktail Waitresses

cocktail waitresses

cocktail waitresses

When my waitresses came back from their break, I could tell the girls were highly intoxicated – not on cocaine or meth, so I guessed it was heroin or something similar. I made 31 drinks for waitressX. While waiting for me to finish, she slightly lowered her head and puked a mighty stream into a large garbage bin next to the bar.

I said, “Three points! Good shot…you didn’t spill a drop!”

She wiped her face with a bar napkin and giggled, “Hehehe…you’re so funny Bobby! I snorted oxycodone ( a powerful narcotic alkaloid used as an analgesic and sedative), it always upsets my stomach!”

The other inebriated waitress said, “That’s nothing.”

She stood three feet away from the trash can, put her hands on her hips and in true American fashion, proudly retched a more streamlined projectile – her stomach contents into the can – perfectly and with no splash back! She proclaimed, “That’s how it’s done…and I don’t even need a napkin.”

I stood in amazement by these two. I’ve done this job for years and this was my first cocktail waitress vomit spitting contest. After the shift slowed down, I was free to converse with these two lovely drug addicts. They are both twenty-one years old and incredibly beautiful (wait until they turn 30! They are in for a rude awakening if they live that long).

Because they had already lowered their guards, I knew I could give them a speech (a screed actually) about how they would end up dying from their actions. They were actually talking about going out after work to drink alcohol and snort cocaine!

I told them a story of three people I know who had died from mixing pain-killers and cocaine. It was quite a horrific tale which I thought would scare them. I was so wrong! They laughed and laughed, continually puking and spraying fluids from their nostrils. One told me, “You should be a professional comedian Bobby! That’s the funniest story I’ve ever heard. Don’t worry about us, we do this everyday!”

I was mortified, I couldn’t believe it! How could 21 year old girls be that far gone? Heroin, it turns out is their favorite drug and it is at epidemic levels here where I live. From the Mississippi Gulf Coast to New Orleans (which is around 120 miles from my house), heroin is available for school children. This is only where I live, I’m sure it’s nation wide. These two girls were doing all this right in front of the customers with absolute reckless abandon.

My sister, who is a child psychologist, deals with 7 year old heroin addicts every day. One important job that needs more people is drug counselors. The money isn’t great but the job’s importance is. I am personally thinking about becoming one. It’s unbelievable to see this going on. It’s impossible to keep drugs off the street, however, effectively educating people can be done.

Other Freakish Incidents

During the same shift, a guy was caught smoking crack outside during a smoking break and was escorted off premises by the police. I also witnessed a blackjack dealer selling pills across the table like they were casino chips!

I walked into the casino liquor room trying to find my barback. He was snorting cocaine off a case of Crown Royal. He said, “Wanna line? I only snort off of Crown Royal cases…that’s why I’m late…I had to get one out, we just got a shipment of liquor in!”

He grabbed a large garbage cart with wheels as I needed him to empty the puke filled bins near the bar because of the noxious odor. As we peregrinated back to the bar, he strutted stylishly pushing the cart and said, “Dude, I make pushing garbage look good.”

He then fixed his hair with a free hand in one of the many casino mirrors. I began feeling sick to my stomach because I know…this is reality.

The casino bar picture is from Matthew’s public gallery.
The cocktail waitresses in the picture are not the girls I work with.

Extremely Disturbing Facts

Here are some extremely disturbing facts I find unbelievable. In most U.S. hospitals, which employees would you expect to be tested for drug use: the people who sweep the floors or the doctors and nurses?

In the hospital nearest my home (the one I would be taken to in the event of a crisis), the people who sweep the floors, file clerks and other non-medical jobs are routinely tested…but the doctors are rarely, if ever tested! Is that not insane? I believe if anyone should be tested, it should be the scalpel wielding surgeons!

I know that when an alcoholic, pain-killer popping, coke snorting surgeon is slicing my chest open…it gives me comfort that the surgery room janitor has been tested for using drugs!!!

Bobby Revell

Who should be tested for drugs?

Here’s some folks who rarely get checked for illicit drug use but really should be 1st in line for analysis: Doctors, Nurses, Judges, Lawyers, Police Officers, Firemen, Politicians and of course…The President!!!!!!!

What I find even more disturbing is that two of the most dangerous drugs known, are legal in most countries…alcohol and tobacco. Though heroin and cocaine are rated as the most dangerous drugs, 95% of all drug related deaths worldwide are caused by alcohol and tobacco! It makes no sense whatsoever. The following chart shows what most scientific studies show about drug danger levels.

Notice that alcohol is rated much more dangerous than speed, anabolic steroids and ecstasy! That is frightening. What do you think? Did you know that cocaine and amphetamine are only psychologically addictive while alcohol and tobacco are physically addictive? A heavy drinking alcoholic can die from going cold turkey.

I am extremely proud to be drug, alcohol and tobacco free!!!!! Yay for me!!!!!!
