Law of Attraction is a Hoax?

Is the Law of Attraction a hoax? If I proclaimed to channel the god Bahghu Mahgufu from the seventh realm of consciousness, wrote a book about it and expected people to believe it—would that make me a prophet with millions of followers or some self-exalted idiot?

Winning Attitude Comes From Within

One thing I rarely discuss on this blog is my experience in selling and closing deals mostly because I became disgusted with the way most money blogs operate on line. You know the deal – you plaster endless ads all over your blog and pray for people to click them so you can make .05 cents. Then you focus your content and hone in on keywords trying to follow the advice of “experts” who will teach you how to do it efficiently. Hasn’t it crossed your mind that these experts are just wanting your traffic so that you may click their ads? Overall, it’s a very poor way to make money. Most bloggers make like $100.00 per year, but many lie about those figures so they will seem more successful than they are. I hope this article will help you understand something that can help you in many ways – not just for making money, but in life as well.

Money Attracts Money?

In the summer of 2004, I was working as a bartender in the Grand Casino Resort swimming pool cabana. It was the highest paying job I have ever had for the short time I worked there. I made $27,000.00 in tips alone – in four months! I learned some unusual lessons about money while working there. We had this gigantic glass tip bucket sitting on top of the bar. A regular sized tip jar would have been far too small.

The first busy day we had there, the tip jar was filled to the top in cash. It was so full, it was obscene. It was rude, tacky and was in every customer’s face. The three bartenders (myself included), left with over $500.00 each that day. Our manager told us she thought (yes, I had a female manager who was one of the best I have ever had – her name was Ruth Crane) that the tip jar was offensive to her. She asked us to empty it into a bag when it got so full so we wouldn’t have this insanely money stuffed beast in everyone’s faces.

So, the next day, we did just that. We were actually busier that day than the day before. We emptied the colossal cash bucket just as she had asked. I left work with $90.00 that day – ouch! I took in over $17,000.00 but only made $90.00 in tips – Strange indeed. Why was that? It seemed logical that an empty tip jar would attract lots of tips…right? No, it doesn’t work like that, or so we thought. We talked to the manager and told her what happened. She agreed that if it hurt our tip rate, we should go back to putting the overstuffed jar back up – shoving it in everyone’s faces. We did just that and our tip rates exploded through the roof!

Attitude Was The Real Reason

Was the tip jar being packed or empty the real cause of success or failure – or was something else at work? I suspected it was something else. I talked it over with the other bartenders and we decided to try something based on my suspicion. I thought, because we had that huge tip jar out, loaded with cash, it affected our attitudes during work. We got used to seeing all that money and were much friendlier and enthusiastic with our customers.

We started keeping the tip jar completely empty at all times, but paid attention to our attitudes and customer service 100% more. We pumped each other up and kept ourselves excited throughout the day having loads of fun. We learned to make even more massive amounts of money without even noticing how much we had made. We depended on ourselves, not that tip jar. I earned the well deserved nickname, “Cabana Bobby” because I loved my job so much. It was lots of fun. I worked wearing comfortable shorts and a tank top, looking at girls in bikinis all day – all while making great money.

It’s definitely not that money attracts money. A winning, enthusiastic and positive attitude is what really attracts money. This really defines what people think of as the “law of attraction”. Originally, this idea comes from ancient India. It is a concept from Hinduism, which is by the way, the oldest known religion. I have studied similar ideas from my life long study of yoga and it’s inherent philosophies. I am just now beginning to truly understand what I learned.

Although my blog is not about how to make money, I thought this cool little story might be beneficial to anyone, regardless of what kind of blog or website you have. True success and a winning attitude really does come from within. We proved that working in this simple job. We learned that we had been depending on that full jar to make us money, while the real solution was inside ourselves. It’s really amazing to think about.

It Comes From Within

My wonderful friend Morgan, told me that when looking for love, we must look within to find it. I wanted to thank her because she has really helped me on numerous occasions. Though this money making example is not about love – the same principle is at work. The answers truly do come from within, in every area of life. It’s so cool how someone can say such a little thing that has a huge, resonating effect. It has helped me piece together many things I already know, but didn’t truly understand. You see, we made huge money without looking for it. It’s much like people saying you find love when you’re not looking for it. Life is just funny that way.

I believe it has a lot to do with being relaxed internally and not being desperate. You must be at peace with yourself inside. If you’re not, people notice – maybe only subconsciously, but it does have a powerful effect on your attitude and how people perceive you. Your personal vibe is more powerful than you may believe. You must learn to be aware of it and how to control it – from within.

Just for your information, the Grand Casino resort was destroyed by hurricane Katrina. The storm lifted the gargantuan casino up and slammed it onto the middle of highway 90 in Gulfport, Mississippi. It was an absolutely unbelievable sight to behold. I thought I would show you some awesome pictures of the casino. I live only around 7 miles from this location. I am a hurricane Katrina survivor.

I Believe – Wave of Peace

Today, I awakened with a positive energy – an unstoppable power throughout my entire being. My spirit is filled with warmth and love. The thought of being alive this very moment explodes within me, I share it with everyone. Anything is possible and I will it to be so.

This is more than happiness, more than positivity, more than belief; it is absolute and invincible – both gentle and explosive. This I know as surely as I am alive.

If you are a Christian, I urge you to reach out and accept all people from all religions. Say something about it. Write about it. Tell the world and do it with conviction. If you are a Muslim, reach out to all people of every faith and accept them completely in your heart. If you are Jewish, reach out to your Christian and Muslim friends. Accept them completely.

No matter what you believe, whether you are agnostic, atheist or from any intention – reach out to everyone and accept them. Let us not judge one another, we are all brothers and sisters. We must do this, the world cries out for us.

There is never a reason to kill another human being. The wars going on are the wars of cowards, greed, envy and pride. On April 6, 2007, I wrote a post I believe in entitled Promoting Racial Unity. Here’s a quote:

Instead of all of fighting against what we oppose we should promote what is good! This is true power. If you do not see that, you do not understand my point. I will end here as the point has been made and is plain and simple. It is also powerful; more powerful than any bomb or gun or hate group. It is all about LOVE!

This is the most important message of all. It is not my message, it wrote itself. It must be the mission of each and everyone of us. If I die today, I want everyone to only remember one thing about me – this message promoting goodness, hope and love. Mindless killings are the most horrible acts and are conceived in the hearts of evil fools.

I did criticize the ‘Law of Attraction’ in my previous post; I am not against the idea, only those who use it for materialistic gain. Money and material wealth are irrelevant and fill humankind with greed and evil. However, many people following these beliefs understand that. Therefore, any promotion of peace and goodwill born of honest intent, is the way.

No matter how you choose to do it, or which path you travel, we must have one united goal. If you but the smallest seed of hatred in you…you must rid yourself of it.

No one religion can or will save humanity, but acceptance of all people can and will. I know this to be true. Let us all stand together in the name of peace, not just our own religions or beliefs.

If we all write about unity, the peaceful resolution of all conflict and believe it, it will and must come true. I am inspired to believe, and will join with anyone in the name of peace – pure and untitled.

The Secret – Exposing The Truth and How it was Conceived

I was apprehensive about writing this post because I know that many of my readers buy into “The Secret” (a movie based in the law of attraction, featuring interviews and dramatizations). It is not my hope to upset you, but to wake you up. Even if you don’t agree with me, please read this with an open mind – afterwards, we can politely disagree!

Bobby Revell

A Look Behind the Marketing Cult

“The Secret” is basically the concept of Australian television author and producer, Rhonda Byrne, who claims she miraculously uncovered this ‘secret’ from reading The Science of Getting Rich, written in 1910 by Wallace D. Wattles.

She studied religions, cult leaders, televangelists, military leaders, philosophies and money making techniques used throughout history looking for a common thread – something that made them popular and effective. She also studied the ways powerful self-help, and positive attitude speakers fired up crowds and incited motivation.

This culminated in one of the biggest money making ideas seen from the self-help gurus; this is exactly my point. I hope you can wrap your brain around what I’m about to tell you.

The Hidden Thread of Mind Control

The most amazing idea in this, is that ‘magic thread’ Rhonda Byrne discovered; it is quite simply a marketing concept based on a little religion, yoga, Zen, quantum mechanics and power speaking. Do you see? The ‘secret’ she is selling people, simply describes how she is selling you on it.

She found (she really didn’t find anything, she is using the common techniques of cult leaders) a powerful way to sell you books and videos, and actually named the method she used after the concept she is selling! This is no secret and the truth screams in my face when I think about it! How unbelievably slick!

By psychologically playing into the hearts of millions of people who really need help, she has found a way to present you a cure, tapping into the psyche of desire that preys on your need for positivity and hunger for something to believe in.

Most of the people who believe in this pseudoscience, are mostly heartbroken women and men suffering from depression, or people who want an easy, magical money making technique (this is a fact). With Oprah Winfrey’s endorsement, she has sold over 3 million copies of “The Secret” DVD at $34.95 each!

Byrne is also a woman many women can relate to. She suffered depression and financial woes; this is one big reason she is able to sell her ideas. Women see themselves in her and she understands that. She is her own greatest sales tool! Do I hear corporate branding?

The psychological attribute of rationalization is thoroughly addressed in these concepts so that you are trained to believe it and argue for it – as you learn it, much like cult leaders do.

By the time you are feverishly enthralled in the program, you have already been trained to find endless reasons to not question it’s intent (the oldest trick in the book).

The real and only ‘secret’ is that if you can fool people, and prey on the emotionally distressed – making them feel happiness from the belief itself, you too can make millions the same way.

Here’s a basic idea believers are taught:

To attract an abundance of dollars, we must remember that we are wealthy in direct proportion to the amount of money that passes through our hands and that it is the movement of money that creates wealth.”

This is basic mind control, psychologically influencing you to rationalize it’s purpose; I learned that in high school.

The Wicked David Schirmer

One of the so-called gurus in the movie is David Schirmer, a multi-millionaire from Australia who is apparently ripping people off and using the secret to do it. Please watch the video below, you will see the truth!

My Conclusions

Perhaps you are thinking, “I see your point, but it has helped me and I believe it’s good.”

You have fallen into the matrix and swallowed the red pill! Stay in la la land or take the blue pill, and see how far the rabbit hole goes. The truth is, you do not need to purchase books and videos from these people to find happiness and cure an ailing heart or bank account.

You can be happy and make money by working hard and believing in yourself. Learn to be happy and fulfilled without the secret and law of attraction; this is the best advice I can give you.

If you carefully study the philosophies of Hermeticism and Theosophy, take yoga classes and listen to several Zig Ziglar motivational CD’s – perhaps you’ll see exactly how Rhonda Byrne conceived this marketing concept, just like I did.

It is very similar to the way scientology (sorry, I will not capitalize the S) was designed. Televangelists and cult leaders also use similar methods. Any intelligent writer with an understanding of how these ideas are conceived, can do the same thing. I did as a joke, read “Revelliantology For Newbies“.

Don’t misunderstand what I’m saying. I’m not saying that there is no such thing as the law of attraction or that thought and visualization doesn’t work – because it does work. Many marketing “gurus” sell ideas that are there to make money and probably will not work for you. I have studied Zen, Taoism, yoga, aikido and many human arts all my life. I just recently learned about “The Secret” and the law of attraction – both were nothing new to me. I was surprised that people were making millions selling repackaged, ancient ideas.

Revelliantology For Newbies

The first time I ever heard of ‘the law of attraction’, I knew exactly what it was – before I actually read a book about it. Someone simply relabeled positive thinking, positive self projection and persuasion with a catchy new title and some quasi-elitist, highly vernacular jargon. It just amazes me that relabeling something thousands of years old can catch on so feverishly.

I’m not saying it doesn’t work, I just cannot bring myself to call it ‘The Law of Attraction’. It’s like a more metaphysical scientology. I should relabel ‘getting laid’ as ‘Revelliantology, the spiritual science of sexual magnetism’. Here’s my idea – maybe I’ll be a billionaire soon:

Revelliantology

Revelliantology

Now…the next time you have a heated romantic interlude, refer to it as the ‘Science of Revellianism‘. What’s even funnier, is that I could actually write this book!

The Disease of Self-centeredness

First, I want to say happy Martin Luther King day. What he fought and died for is and will always be one of the most important issues facing the whole of humanity. It is powerfully disturbing that we have become something even worse than racists; we have become a world of self-centered, narcissistic and self-righteous peoples.I recently finished reading my 8th book about the ‘Law of Attraction’. I have read nearly every major religious work and even a few books about ‘Scientology’. I forewarn everyone, you may be highly offended at what I’m going to say.

I am neither a leader or a follower, I am an individual. I am a seeker of truths and strive to understand truth with open mindedness and clarity. The reason I read so many books about the law of attraction is that I kept trying to learn something new, something I didn’t realize on my own, back in my early teen years. I never found it!

I thought everyone already knew the general ideas in this type of subject just by virtue of being an intelligent human being. If the law of attraction helps you, and you believe in it, then it is good (but what is ‘good’). However, anything you believe that helps you is good – whether it’s a religion, a cult, a self-help book, a philosophical revelation or a visit to the psychiatrist.

I will point out, that simply being educated about all these things and believing in yourself, beyond any teachings is the same thing…generally speaking. Because of the shallow way this world has evolved, both spiritually and intellectually, people are likely to follow something; they are looking for truth. They want to be shown truth, not discover it within themselves.

That truth is not in any book or video or seminar; it is within your own mind and fueled by your own desire to understand it. Some folks may say, “Yes, exactly…that defines the law of attraction!”

Hahahaha…no it doesn’t! If it did, it wouldn’t be called that…it would simply be called truth! Truth is not a marketing tool to sell books. Quite simply, the law of attraction is a marketing tool which is popular simply because it reflects humankind’s need to seek what what it believes it needs in the present time. It is a sign of the times.

People want to gain wealth and have a good life for themselves and their children. This is because that “good life” is for the privileged few and most of us do not have it. We are so animal like, so filled with greed and envy. It’s both our own faults along with the governments and those who have wealth.

If you are wishing, praying or visualizing yourself gaining wealth, you should be ashamed! Wish and visualize helping humanity, not lining your wallets. I’m sorry, but “praying” for material objects helps fester and perpetuate all that is wrong with the world. What’s sad is that people are getting rich writing books and selling people these ideas…WAKE UP!!!!!

If I said that a family’s inheritance to their children should be illegal, what would you think? No matter what you think, it is a fact that by having legalized inheritances absolutely causes a lopsided division of wealth over a period of time in any form of government. Surely if a parent has saved $150,000.00, they want their children to have it.

If you have 20 newborn babies, are they equal? In most cases, yes – but not in wealth. If one child’s parents have 50 million dollars, then that child will live a privileged life. The other children will have to fight for themselves. Thus, survival of the fittest doesn’t apply! It becomes survival of the wealthiest and greediest!

On the flip side, if the government took 75% of all inheritances, corruption behind closed doors would occur! Look at the forms of government in today’s world. A communistic government will always develop inner corruption and will rot from the inside out. A society based on money like in the US, the wealth becomes one sided forming a massive poor and middle class where people barely get by.

It is inevitable that the US government will not last forever, but I am not afraid. So what would work best? How can humanity solve these problems? I believe the answer cannot be achieved through government.

Right now, Americans are giving up liberty for protection by the government. What are we afraid of? I say there is nothing to fear, not even death. We are not fighting for liberty, we are fighting for greed and wealth!

“Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.”

Benjamin Franklin

Can you see the problem? Have you learned something? War and violence is not the solution; they are the traits of nescience and cowardice. The answers are in heart of individuals – each and every one of us.

Should individuals legally be able to keep billions of dollars just for themselves? Therein lies the problem! This is the wrong question. I say, sure, an individual has every right to keep billions – I ask that individual, “Why would you want to?”

This is my personal hypothesis. A person should not want to keep this only for themselves, leaving it only for their children. Under an absolutely transparent democracy, free from greed – we can find the truth. I’m not talking about some ridiculous utopia, I’m talking about humankind finding peace and honesty within themselves – on an individual basis.

Unfortunately, this is a paradox. Within the fabric of everything humankind does, lie the seeds of destruction. Therefore, the real answers are inside our hearts, purely and simply. This is why I choose to be my own person and follow no books or doctrines. I do believe in God, but even more than that – I believe in myself.

Peace and love to everyone on Earth
